Every time I see a reference to the Robinson part of Robinson Cano, I am reminded of how Jon Miller was required to mention in every ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast of the Red Sox vs. Yankees that Robinson Cano was named after Jackie Robinson. Followed by Joe Morgan discussing Cano's greatness which he'd qualify as still falling short of him and the Big Red Machine. As first reported by...me, weird Mets fact relating to how they chose to fill their catcher needs:

Maybe this will be the year he wins a batting title! God, that felt like one of the corner spaces of mid-00s Sunday Night Baseball bingo.Every time I see a reference to the Robinson part of Robinson Cano, I am reminded of how Jon Miller was required to mention in every ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast of the Red Sox vs. Yankees that Robinson Cano was named after Jackie Robinson. The contract was pretty terrible, but if the plan was wait for the agent who negotiated it for Cano (Brodie) to become a GM and make an awful lopsided trade involving taking over the rest of his deal, plan worked, good job.MAn, I remember that Cano signing being criticized but, in the end, it turned out to be a pretty great deal for the Mariners. 23.3 bWAR for about $108.3 mil and a few top prospects.
The Mets probably wish they had Kelenic back, but in fairness, he has hit well for the last season and a half. The contract was pretty terrible, but if the plan was wait for the agent who negotiated it for Cano (Brodie) to become a GM and make an awful lopsided trade involving taking over the rest of his deal, plan worked, good job.
I guess we should never underestimate the power of cash rich desperate GMs in the league. Maybe Chaim will find some takers for Eovaldi this offseason after all.The contract was pretty terrible, but if the plan was wait for the agent who negotiated it for Cano (Brodie) to become a GM and make an awful lopsided trade involving taking over the rest of his deal, plan worked, good job.
Cano? He has hit well so far this year but last year he was only worth 0.3 bWAR for the entire season, and Edwin Diaz has been a massive bust who is about to get pricy as he hits his arb years. The Mets probably wish they had Kelenic back, but in fairness, he has hit well for the last season and a half.
I don't think trading Eovaldi would be all that tough, he's a perfectly competent middle rotation guy.I guess we should never underestimate the power of cash rich desperate GMs in the league. Maybe Chaim will find some takers for Eovaldi this offseason after all.
Robinson Leyer called up by the Red Sox, for anyone else who didn't get edoug's referenceThat fact is in danger.
