No inner sanctum I guess for Joe Harris, who's coming off a full season where he shot 47% from 3 at high volume, and is currently leading the team in minutes played and threes made, rocking a 59% TS and a net +7.3.

What an annoying little dweeb. Almost nothing that comes out of his mouth is anything I could imagine Kemba, Lillard, or Steph thinking, let alone saying.

Also, probably just a clerical error by Bontemps, but I love the idea that Kyrie needs more guys to "compliment" him.

I'm starting to wonder whether the 2018 ECF run was because of his absence, and not in spite.

We have a lot of evidence now that he causes issues unless he's playing second banana to one of the top 2 players in history.

Really nice to see he’s helping lots of families and without being trite, that’s a legacy to be proud of.

All that said, I think he caused issues then too, but King James put his boot heel down.

He had shots in traffic blocked tonight by Thybulle and Josh Richardson. Seems like Kylie has lost those young legs he used to have. I think he could subordinate himself to Durant and Dinwiddie next year, perhaps passing more and shooting less. But his defense was really bad last night. And always will be.

The narrative of late on Kyrie has been "elite offensive player, but...." with all of the usual caveats regarding leadership, defense and intangibles. But it's worth noting that Kyrie always has the ball in his hands, isn't a great leaper, and doesn't really get to the free throw line. His game is predicated on making contested off-the-dribble jumpers and finishing contested shots at the rim. He's been really, really great at those two things, enough to be a highly efficient offensive player, but they're like the two hardest things to do in basketball offensively. It's possible that these mounting injuries sap just enough of his first step that he falls from being an elite offensive player quicker than anyone thought.

Of course, what's frustrating is that he has the skillset to be a great offensive player in other ways; he's a terrific catch-and-shoot guy by the numbers, he's a savvy cutter when he decides to be, etc. He just doesn't play that way, and if he does fall off a half step, he's going to become a net negative in a hurry.

I don't know how I feel about this. I am happy he is helping kids with their education, but I question The Patrick's School's motive. A school with 128 students (grades 6-12) and has Boys and Girls JV and V basketball (that is what...55-60 kids?) and is ranked #2 in NJ in boys basketball. It just seems shady.

I rooted for him and enjoyed the highlights, myself. But putting myself in the shoes of Marcus Smart - who fucking kills himself every possession he's on the floor, despite having only a fraction of the individual scoring genius of Kyrie - if I were Smart and Kyrie was my teammate, I'd be online researching medieval poisoning methods. I don't know how he made it two years without sending Kyrie to the ER. Jaylen Brown almost didn't.

a Catholic school being shady, what a shocker? Just kidding. It closed down due to funding before. It's an inner-city school trying to help kids in a tough environment. If basketball is the conduit for keeping these boys/girls in school and keeping the school funded, so be it.

Yes it’s hard for there not to be a dropoff after me, you know, Ive been there, I’ve made big shots, and I think that cosmically it’s really my destiny to show Caris and Spence and some other guys what winning is about, because winning is just basketball, you know? And sometimes we make it not basketball and I just have to go back and articulate my craft and try to complement myself every day while motivationally striving to be that type of leader.

Man how I wish that Boston had dealt Irving to Brooklyn last winter for Crabbe and a 2020 #1. Watching another franchise absorb The Curse has been amusing. But as it’s still lingering for Boston they might want to consider having a priest perform a ritual cleansing of the franchise.

The Nets, by contrast, might need a ritual flensing to save them by the time that deal’s up...

Agreed.

I really think Lebron ruined him. Not on purpose, totally unintentionally...just by being Lebron.

Imagine being able to get any kind of results.
You play well....then Lebron takes it as an "active Load managment day" letting you be the 1B.
You play lousy and Lebron does what Lebron does and carries the team to victory.

On the Good nights you get the accolades.
On the bad nights if any criticism is registered you simply say "Hey we won! Great team win." Everyone forgets the bad.

IOW no consequences for your (bad) actions and only positive reinforcement for your good.

So hell yea he is going to Assume all he does is golden. And he is constantly going to be pointing the finger at everyone else saying "If I had more help we would be more successful."

Well it would be consonant with Kyrie’s career arc to leave yet another franchise doomed, so I think we can expect to hear Durant issue a trade ultimatum to the Nets this summer. Followed by Irving fulfilling his destiny to be a Knick.

I'm not sure LeBron ruined him; he was just such a dominating force that Kyrie's attitude and quirkiness was overshadowed by what ever LeBron was doing. When Kyrie demanded out of Cleveland, it was very strange. Cleveland was a title-contending team with a good roster of stars and veteran role players, but Kyrie demanded out and soon he was shipped to Boston for pennies on the dollar.

LeBron has been a bad teammate in the sense that he has leveraged his star power by team-hopping to ensure that whatever team he is on needs to go all in, and when he leaves the team will have to go through a long rebuilding phase. He has definitely been willing to trade any of his teammates if he thinks it will get him closer to a ring. Outside of that though, he doesn't seem to engage in the daily drama that Kyrie does, and mostly just says boring, bland things in his press conferences. Most people seem to agree that LeBron is a great leader for a basketball team, he is always ranked near or at the top in the annual GM survey of which NBA player is the best leader.

Kyrie goes 6-21 in a loss and then says "we need more pieces," clearly implying that some of his teammates aren't good enough. Kemba has a bad game in a loss and apologizes to his teammates for letting them down.

That's a deeper dive man, I honestly think that it's just probably a tell-tale sign of the career that I've had, some of the moves that I've made individually, and as well as coming to different environments and organizations, at the end of the day I always say it's an entertainment league, we're very drama filled, everything regurgitates on all these media platforms, which is part of our society, I can't really do anything about it, except really be a pillar in our locker room, be very communicative, and when I'm out there with the guys, just impact winning. That's really what it comes down to. Its not like I'm an asshole yelling at everybody in the friggin locker room all the time. You hear all these stories. At the end of the day my name was given to me by my grandfather, I'm very grateful, but it's in a lot of people's mouths all the time, it is what it is, I've earned that respect in terms of how great I am as a player, and there's still more goals I want to accomplish in this league, and I can't do it without improving an organization and winning a championship, and that's what it comes down to. So I'm going to continue to push, I'm going to continue to demand greatness out of myself, and demand greatness out of my teammates, and we go from there. If it's harsh as a leader, or if it's too much for anybody, you're not in our locker room, stay the fuck out. It's as simple as that.

The “you can’t comment because you are not me” is similar to what Durant has said about the criticism he got for going to Golden State. That it was his decision to make and everyone that wanted him to do something else didn’t understand because they were not in his position. In a way he has a point; Durant has the freedom to do whatever he wants, it is his career. But he also seems to want to live in a world where nobody can question anyone else’s decisions, which is never going to happen, especially if you are a public figure.
