Thank you, Mike. You can wander the streets of Boston drunk anytime you wish.

The best you can hope for is a low level lottery ticket. If they get back an 19 yo A guy that throws 97 with control problems I'd be ecstatic.MICHAELG63 said:Would be nice to get a relief pitcher back who can be in some way more useful than what we have been putting out there

Do they have any AAA arms that could function in the bullpen now or soon?nvalvo said:
Texas is trying to crack the playoffs. They're collecting MLB pitching, not sending it out for bench bats. The return will almost certainly be a low-level minor leaguer and/or salary relief.
So, that's why his forearms withered.mikeford said:He was just never the same after Daisy's closed

It's pretty simple: they can only play 9 guys a day, you don't want to risk him turning into a bad apple on the bench (and why shouldn't he? a trade gives a lifeline; a benching means his career is ova), and the best price they could get was "free".

Shaw and Craig would make an acceptable platoon at first base for the next seven weeks, after which we will forget them both as soon as possible.E5 Yaz said:Gordon Edes @GordonEdes 5m5 minutes ago
Cherington made it clear Sox preference is to keep Sandoval at 3b and Ramirez in OF, so we could see recall of Allen Craig from Pawtucket
So paying Naps salary and reintroducing Craig to the LT payroll is the way to do that?Sprowl said:
Getting the team salary budget below the cap is worth a lot for spending flexibility in future years. I wouldn't expect any actual baseball value coming back for any of the August waiver deals.

It's conceivable that we have another Carlos Peña scenario developing, not likely, but not wholly implausible.
But if they bring Craig back up there's no way in hell they get under the capSprowl said:Getting the team salary budget below the cap is worth a lot for spending flexibility in future years. It's Cafardo. There's a highly likely chance he's pulling it out of his ass.vadertime said:Why not just play Shaw at 1B the rest of the way. Why do we have to call up Craig? I don't get the rationale that just because we traded Nap that we're calling up Craig.

Ale Xander said:I'm disappointed that a team like pirates mets or nats didn't want him as a bat of the bench to offer more (or Napoli wouldn't waive no trade )
I don't view him as a possible bad apple though
I didn't see it stated that he was claimed on waivers by Texas. If that were the case I would assume the Sox would have just let them have him rather than mess around with paying cash and then getting possibly less cash back. It seems he cleared, so yes they would have had a chance.Brianish said:
Pirates, Mets, and Nats didn't get the chance, as they're in the NL.
