Milwaukee and Indiana were both 4-0, so I think they're always the top two seed.
Yeah I had it in my head that we could have passed a 3-1 Miami, but Scotty's point that Miami couldn't have won the PD tiebreaker (absent a colossal blowout) squished that possibility.

With Minnesota winning, Sacramento can lose by up to 12 and still advance. A loss to GSW by 13 or more will eliminate them and advance the Warriors.
Kings +29, 358 points scored, 329 points allowed

Warriors +5, 360 points scored, 355 points allowed

If it gets to +17 for both, is points scored or allowed the next tiebreaker?

Does anyone know if these quarterfinals games are going to be on national TV? I feel like they needed “whip around” coverage on TBS in addition to the prime game on TNT tonight.

In addition to the 500k per winning team player, winning team head coaches also get 500k. And assistants get 75% of that (not sure if thats per assistant or to divide up).

Either way, that's a TON of money for the end of the bench guys/coaches. Would be a significant addition to their yearly salary, plus some of these guys won't be in the NBA very long. Not surprised at all they would be totally into it.

The entire thing still feels a bit contrived to me, but the bar is low to increase interest in Late Nov/Early Dec games. This certainly has done that.

I’ve read the last 3 pages and am still not sure what is happening (for the record, I don’t follow soccer at all, so this is foreign to me).

This is a bit chaotic for my linear brain.

So, are the Celtics still in the tournament? Now they play @Pacers in a do-or-die game? Am I getting that correct?

You got it. They are in the quarterfinals.

One thing I don’t fully understand. How does ticketing work here? Did each team agree to only sell 39 home games worth of tickets at the start of the season? And also agree to possibly losing 2 home gates?

Sengun definitely has a bit of Sabonis or even Jokic in his game where he just bullies defenders. He looks so strong and he is only going to get stronger. Yet he is already winning match-ups against grown-ass defenders.

Kyrie with an absurd flop that is called a foul on Brooks. Being reviewed now.

Edit: And they keep the foul on Brooks as he lightly touched Kyrie’s arm. Kyrie reacted like he got shot.

Jones on Dallas gets an outlet pass with Houston trying to force a bad inbounds, goes up and throws down I think the hardest dunk I have ever seen, non-Shaq division. The entire stand and basket apparatus shook like it was gonna topple. The guy went Hulk on the thing, I hope there's video.

Sacramento halftime show is an embarrassment, some guy karaoke-ing to a rap song while they play the actual lyric track on top of him, so the whole thing is slightly out-of-sync.

It's no baby race, that's for sure.

Can’t be more of an embarrassment than their first half.

Warriors (needing to win by 12+ to advance) vs Kings (needing to lose by less than 11 or win outright to advance) is the perfect game to end the group round. These teams and fanbases hate each other, great to watch.

*edit - the steady decline of Draymond Green is sad and great to see.

Draymond on tilt again.

WTF is wrong with this guy?

He needs to just get kicked out of the league for good.

This game is good old fashioned NBA fun. Dubs/Kings has been a show for years but the IST makes it even spicier.

Yeah, this tournament is a winner already and we haven’t even reached the knockout round.
The Warriors being up big at the half made it feel like this outcome is possible. The Kings can score and Brown knows how to slow the Warriors down. Add in the "playoff" component and its the most dramatic thing on TV right now.

Kings playing like they’re the ones that need to win by 12+. Don’t understand the point of pace when you’re the one holding serve here.

Maybe means Sactown is more focused on overall win than group stage? Or maybe it’s just Occam’s Razor of Brown’s all too frequent suboptimal in-game coaching.

Wow that is a really stupid challenge. I understand protecting your superstar, but it’s ok to tell him, “you did it man.”

I think staying at home for the quarter finals is an incentive to win for Sacto.

...and it came right back to bite Kerr at the end when he didn't have a timeout, and Steph didn't have anything good coming up the floor.

Steve Kerr losing a game because he deludes himself into believing his stars can do no wrong is quite poetic.

Finally, I love love love what point differential does to games. Sometimes it gets sloppy, but the effort dial gets turned up way harder, and every mental lapse that leads to a backdoor layup feels bigger. They took the goal differential drama of the 2nd leg of a Champions League game, and successfully ported it over to the NBA. Impressive.

I'm excited for next year, since teams will have experienced game 4 already, and now know they have to care about point differential in games 1-3.
