@DMooreNFL To summarize: #Titans DC Ray Horton is negotiating to be released from contract to join #Browns as DC, as I've been told by a #NFL source.

Horton goes back to the Browns, where he was the DC in 2013 (#24 in defensive DVOA that year, under the former Browns GM & current NE "assistant to the coaching staff" Michael Lombardi).

Biggest 'loser' of this HC derby has to be Doug Marrone, right? Quit in Buffalo, interviewed a bunch of spots this offseason, and likely stuck with coordinator/position roles now. Perhaps back to college?
Being a Syracuse guy, Marrone continues to be a subject that generates a lot of emotion when discussed. He really, really, really hated the "college" aspects of being a college coach (recruiting, fundraising, glad handing boosters) so I can't see him returning to the college game.

I gotta figure someone gives him another NFL head gig someday, but walking away from a job really seems to have put a stink on him.

Why would Vrabel turn this down? It is Florio's speculation that he must be promised Romeo retiring &
the pressure on a defense is too much from too many hurry-up three-and-outs. But that's speculation.

Hard to know for sure, but getting a lot of interviews likely indicates the problem wasn't his reputation.
He got invited to interview and then didn't get offered any jobs, so most likely he didn't interview well. Or he wasn't a good fit for any job.

It will be interesting to see if he gets interviews next year.

Kelly in a call to BB: Bill, do you have any coaching suggestions for me?
BB: Yes, Chip - fire Mangini.
Given that Mangini had Patrick Willis, Aldon Smith, and Darnell Dockett unexpectedly unavailable, its hard to find too much fault with him over shitty luck.

Greg Bedard did a few long pieces for SI on the Texans this year. He was literally sitting on coaches meetings for a couple of days and got complete access to their decision making (much like Holley with Patriot Reign). He said on the radio today (not sure which - some Sirius/XM) that Vrabel has an incredibly tight relationship with O'Brien. And that him turning down the job probably had nothing to do with Chip or the 49ers but his loyalty to O'Brien and an eventual promised promotion like Florio is assuming.

I wish the Texans were in the NFC, I'd be rooting for them to make the Super Bowl every year. I love BOB and Vrabel.
