Only if the fan accelerated the travel of the ball into Marte's glove otherwise forget it.Van Everyman said:Can Maddon challenge whether the fan touched that?
Didn't they poach the former scouting director for the Sox, too? Jared somebody? And Michael Bowden, for god's sake!!Van Everyman said:The Cubs make me irrationally angry. I should be sympathetic to their plight. But then I remember that Theo left the Sox in the lurch, that Maddon is their manager, that they poached Lester (and Ross!) from the Sox and that they somehow got Rizzo from the Padres after Hoyer oozed his way out of San Diego.
I feel conflicted.
Yup. This has been a fun game to watch.BCsMightyJoeYoung said:Nice play by Marte .. Russell hustling with two outs .. Good baseball all around.

Most compelling game I have seen in months. Fuck it, Theo, John, Rizzo and the Gray Wolf are reason enough for me.ifmanis5 said:Yup. This has been a fun game to watch.
Would love to see one of these teams in the WS instead of Mets/Dodgers/Cards.
You don't like watching the Dodgers? I think they're a lot of fun to watch.rembrat said:The Mets are fun to watch. Dodgers & Cards, not so much.

This is what they paid Lester for, they need him to come up big.BCsMightyJoeYoung said:If Arieta could pitch twice in the NLDS you'd have to think they'd be favourites .. Obviously he can't ..
Would we have got him if Theo hadn't left?E5 Yaz said:

Maybe impossible, but not unpossible.

They've had a half dozen pitching prospects as good as Arrieta and E-Rod in recent years. I think they're just terrible at developing pitchers. Thank god.BCsMightyJoeYoung said:Good lord .. And then trading away EdRo a year later
Yeah if I were a GM I'd be looking at Orioles pitchers and figuring if there might be talent there that's just not being developed correctly.Pilgrim said:They've had a half dozen pitching prospects as good as Arrieta and E-Rod in recent years. Van Everyman said:Sure, but it's not about the Cubs being undeserving--let's be honest, this is def. a team that could win it all--it's about the Pirates being more deserving than a coin toss game. To me, last night's game was really no different than an old-school play in game (which is the idea) ... but see, the Pirates didn't tie the Cubs in the regular season. They beat them. And while I get that the whole idea is to make WC teams suffer a little more in the playoffs than simply not getting home field advantage, a single game just feels weak to me.
I wasn't a huge fan of the two wild cards to begin with -- between the NFL's "Let's play every night on every continent!" strategy, the NBA's 7-game series for teams that barely win a third of their games and the fact that we're picking out turkeys by the time the World Series is over, the whole ratings grab aspect of these things is wearing on me as a fan. But if you must have two WC's, a best-of-three series would make a lot more sense.
