I still don't get why this prevent them from wearing it. Presumably they paint the helmets and reapply decals every week, yes? Why can't they just paint the same helmet white?
No, you don't paint the helmets every week.  You may reapply decals to some players who damaged theirs, but not all do.

The process to paint helmets is a long one.  It involves shipping them out as they don't get done in-house.

So long as Kraft is the owner the Patriots are never going to wear red as their primary uniform -- I believe he said something about finding it inappropriate for the New England Patriots to wear the color most associated with the English troops in the Revolutionary War.

I always thought the Patriots should do a Continental Army buff-and-blue, with crossed muskets as a helmet logo.  That would be boss.

Those are ok, not great.

I think the helmet should be white, with a blue (or red) stripe, and a slightly bolder logo (a flag? something.).  As it is, they look a lot like the Giants' helmets.

The logo in that design is a little boring, IMO.

I agree. I can appreciate a well executed simple and classic look but that falls flat. I don't mind an interesting redesign but I'm not sure that captures the New England Patriots. The minute-men were chosen for a reason as they are the quintessential New England Patriots. Is there another symbol that captures that? A Paul Revereesque rider?

Too cheesy-pie?

Exactly.

If they simply ditched the silver (why silver?  If there was any point to it being a "cool" color 15 years ago, those times have passed, and it makes close to no sense from a theme/historic perspective.  Minute men didn't wear fucking armor.) in favor of buff/off white, and adding a red and blue center stripe to the helmet, I think their uniforms would be about 50% better right away.

In terms of the actual logo, something a little more retro (but not in a totally contrived manner) would be good. If there was a way to artfully merge this:

With this:

that would be boss.

EDIT: come to think of it, it's a missed opportunity that the Flying Elvis wasn't created in a way that referred to NH's Old Man on the Mountain (RIP).

I would like the Patriots to adopt a tradition from soccer and have four stars on the Pat the Patriot logo to represent our championships.

That would be worthy of mocking.

Well Paul Revere was a silversmith. So there's that.

. IIRC, wasn't there talk at the time of the change that silver & new logo were easier to render on TV graphics?

If they just took the "CLEVELAND" off of the front, it wouldn't be so bad.

There's no need to have the city's name on the uniform.  That's so stupid.   "Hey, if we put Cleveland on the front, more people in Cleveland will buy it, right?!"   It ironically makes the team look like a high school team.

EDIT: Oh, and the "Browns" off of the legs.  Good lord.    So they literally have brown stuff running down their legs.

I had the exact opposite reaction about the "Cleveland." I liked it. MLB and NBA teams often have their city names on the uniforms; I took it as meaning the team represents the city.

They are pretty awful but, in all fairness, anything involving the Browns is destined to be terrible.

And you might note that many teams (at least in MLB) have the city name on the road jersey and the team name on the home jersey.  On the road, they are kind of like a visiting delegation from their home city.

This is sort of our defacto uniform thread, so I think this belongs here....

Cleveland is the latest team to elect to dress up like an Arena Football League Team.

Nike Sucks.
Awful on a number of levels.

I hate the brown pants/brown jersey look, too many teams are doing the same color look, which floats only as road whites.

And the alternate creamsicle version is brutal.
