So apparently this is starting up:

@Russ_Goldman Pats fans please do tweet and RT #NoBradyNoBanner started by my friend @MikeFromATown

I'm on board. Stick it to Goodell and not have the celebration on Thursday. Wait until Brady comes back from (any) suspension.

Not a fan. It makes out one player to be bigger than the team. Celebrate with your fans on opening night and run roughshod over the league when Brady returns.

except TB12 is the NEP and a big part of the team. Don't celebrate without him.

Totally agree.  There's no particular reason the team needs to do the banner opening night, and it wouldn't be the same without him there.   If they are moronic enough to actually suspend him just have it when he returns.  What's lost by doing that?  A game or two with a banner up?

Honestly I think it helps to rally around something physical / tangible, and that banner (or empty spot where it belongs) would be perfect

Assuming Goodell doesn't vacate the SB triumph, that is.

I'm assuming this is 100% a joke that they'd even think that. There's no way it'd ever happen.

A fired up team led by their back-up QB in a game against a team they may be fighting for playoff positioning with?

If Brady doesn't play, I'll take the emotion of getting the banner up there.

Brady can still be in the stadium and watch the banner raising from the owners box or something. I've seen suspended players and coaches still attend games as a spectator.

Such a ruling would likely result in the end of the NFL as we currently know it.  So, no, it ain't happening.

I actually think the emotion/team-building is likely to be stronger by not raising the banner, although that's not the reason I'd wait.

Stick it to Goodell?? Goodell could give a rats ass if Brady is playing opening night. Multi billion dollar business and you actually think that the day the Patriots raise a championship banner matters? The NFL, despite its flaws, is a juggernaut. It will easily survive any LOCAL backlash from Brady not being on the field opening game. In fact, it will make the game even more compelling on a national level...fans around the country tuning in and hoping the Steelers kill 'em while gloating that Brady is not playing....this too shall pass

Yeah, that's not the point.

This is about protesting, not about Tom Brady's feelings.

And I love me a good (violent) protest.

If Brady doesn't play the opener, the players wouldn't have to do much to embarrass the league. I'd love it if they announce "super bowl champions NE Patriots", Crazy Train plays and....nothing. The team stays back in the tunnel for what would be a very uncomfortable 3-4 minutes. They walk out stoically, slap a 12 patch on their jersey and go to the sideline. This would be especially good if the crowd understood and sat on their hands. A silent stadium would make a dramatic point.

If suspended, i don't think he can be in the stadium on game day. Or am I thinking about baseball there.

Anyway, I say raise the banner and make a symbolic gesture ... such as every player wearing a 12 sticker on their helmets. It'll get them all fined, but what the hell.

Also, hand out Brady uniform jersey signs for the fans

We should have a separate thread for Bradyless Opener fanfic.

Invite Roger to the ceremony.  Have Kraft MC and then announce there will be no celebration until Brady returns and "That's the bottom line, because Stone Cold says so".

He then gives Roger the stone cold stunner and the remaining Patriots rush the stage for a total team beat down.

I would pay to see that.

Sean Payton wasn't allowed in the stadium for games when he was suspended. He had to get a special exception from Goodell to be there the night Brees broke the consecutive TD record. Not sure if it works that way for players.

Should probably hold the banner ceremony as planned on opening night, with Brady watching from the video board in a prison uniform, behind bars, like Easy-E in the video for 'We Want EZ".

Pre-recorded jumbotron address with Brady surrounded by his teammates.

The place would go bonkers.

By the time opening night rolls around the fact he (probably) won't be playing will be beaten to death. Four months is a long time .... everyone will have learned to live with the suspension and will be pulling for Jimmy G to play well ...

Yeah it wouldn't hurt the bottom line, however RG is so egotistical that he would take this a direct shot at him personally.  I'd say he would very much care if the Pats did this.

I don't understand how the NFL can physically ban an individual from a private facility they don't own. I suppose Brady could technically show up and just risk further sanctions or whatever.

God this whole thing is so stupid. Sorry. (I don't mean what the thread's proposing).

If they suspended Belichick, do you think they'd allow him to sit in the front row behind the Pats bench interacting with the team?

I wouldn't be surprised if social media has altered the calculus of the old "Friday afternoon news dump." Hits are low on the weekend, but social media shares spike as people screw around their phones at youth soccer matches and such, and then everyone reads them on Monday.

The only options for burying this mess are no longer on the table.

Legally speaking, sure, why not? It just means the NFL would come down on the team / Belichick again. Probably make them forfeit the game.

Goodell doesn't have the power to have the cops forcibly remove someone from a stadium (at least I don't think he does).

I'm for #NBNB but it will never happen.  Kraft is way too much of an NFL guy.  For TB12 to get thrown under the bus disgusts me but Opening Night will go on as plan ed without him, unfortunately.

Because all the stipulations are involved are probably listed in the CBA, or your player/coach contract, etc.

While NFL football is the ultimate team game, Tom Brady was so integral to the team's success last season and in the Super Bowl in particular that it would just be wrong to celebrate the team's accomplishment without him there.  That he might not be there because the NFL bowed to public pressure and suspended Tom notwithstanding that teams heating balls on the sidelines during games last season was dealt with perfunctorily, and that Aaron Rodgers admitted that he likes balls to be overinflated was not dealt with at all, only adds to that sense.

And I love the "thanks for giving us the opening night game but we'll celebrate once our maligned leader is back" message.  I like it as an FU to the NFL and as very public measure of support for Brady.

The only reason not to wait is that Bill likes to turn the page and focus at the task at hand, and leaving this celebration out there for a X weeks delays that a bit.

Any suspension will be for the regular season, so can't they just have the ceremony during a home preseason game?

I hope Brady stiffs the league during the 50th Super Bowl Celebration they invited him to in that letter signed "Roger".

They should just put together a package of that interview, the Carolina ball warming incident, etc., and play it at Foxboro during timeouts.  Totally think it'll happen too.

Reads threads backwards
I don't think TB is getting suspended, but this is fun.

There's a way that the Pats not raising the banner is kind of like the Lombardi being revoked- celebration of the championship at home is suspended, too.

In the wrong thread, I suggested they raise it twice. Double the fun! That's more FU.

Like There Is No Rev's response: half-mast the first time.
