Yeah, he is certainly not apathetic to the actual competition, that would indeed be lame.

I think this is why I'm fine with it: he clearly cares an incredible amount about improving his own game, and about improving his team.

He's also Serbian, and they don't really do the wild public displays of emotion thing.

Jokic's brothers were pretty celebratory.

I'm not saying he needs to be MJ or KG when he wins but being an ambassador for the game is important. Being good doesn't mean you care because the super max is incentive enough for that. Appearances do matter.

Bird didn't display a ton of emotion but you know he cared about winning.

Why is it refreshing to act like winning in the NBA is a boring 9-5?

If the players don't care why should we?
Maybe he's exhausted from being the best player in the league for 10 months? He could just be relieved it's over and he gets a break.

You're also ruling out the serial killer part of this where he's more focused on going for #2, 3, etc

Being extraordinarily dedicated to your profession but also having healthy perspective on what it means and how much it defines you on a broader scale should not be mutually exclusive, IMO.

Jokic not giving a shit where the physical trophy that he received for being the best player out of twenty for five games is problematic to you?

Guy climbed the mountain and is free to celebrate how he wants.

How would his way of celebrating the title in the immediate aftermath of the series impact the NBA’s brand? Who really cares about this stuff in terms of their engagement with the sport? I mean, have no recollection of 99 percent of title celebrations. Apart from KG’s ‘Anything is Possible,’ it’s kinda a big blank for me.

Jokic looking like he's waiting at the gate for a delayed flight vs

But yes... the personality and passion of a superstar is good for the marketing of the sport.
