Eh, that's fine. It's a toe, not a shoulder.

I got drunk last year, came home and started rough-housing with my dog, kicked a very heavy piece of furniture very hard with my middle toe and fractured it. It healed in 3 weeks and I still feel it every once in awhile to this day but I run probably 15-20 miles per week on it without a hitch. If it's anything like that I'm guessing it won't impact him.
Are you also 6'7" and nearly 300lbs? A lower body injury on a larger human being is more worrisome because of the amount of stress put on the feet, ankles, and knees compared to someone smaller and lighter.

Stroman is doing an incredible job since signing of winning over the NY fans, even jaded me was pretty psyched after seeing this.

==================

Fashion statement

Marcus Stroman’s growing throwback apparel collection has garnered attention around Yankees camp.

The right-hander arrived sporting the on-field cap worn by Derek Jeter and his Yankees teammates after winning the 1998 World Series, and on at least two occasions, he’s been spotted in a T-shirt that appears to date from the Bombers’ 2004 home opener.

“I love vintage; that’s all I’m usually in, vintage clothing,” Stroman said. “I have a few buddies that will find everything, pretty much. The second I came over here, it definitely was a priority to find some New York vintage.”

I'm going to need a Yankees signing to help me get through the drudgery of meetings I have all day.

Bring me Blake Snell!
Don't think you're going to get a signing, but there will be some fun matchups starting around now:

Gerrit Cole and Ian Hamilton will face LeMahieu, Rizzo, Torres, Volpe and VanMeter at 1:25 p.m.

Will Warren and Chase Hampton to face Judge, Soto, Stanton, Verdugo, Grisham at 2:25 p.m.

Nice day for Spencer Jones. 3 for 3 with a HR and two singles. Also hit by a pitch. 2 runs and 4 RBI.

I really hope he continues to develop and becomes part of the next cohort of Yankees stars. Volpe, the Martian, Wells and Spencer are all funs guys to root for.

And that HR went for 470

“Trent Grisham has never hit a home run as hard as he did today (111.5 MPH) at any point of his career, even including Spring Training and the playoffs.”

Meredith M asked Gerrit Cole the very good early spring training question of whose stuff he was impressed with. Cole took a bit to answer, then first said the two relievers from the Dodgers, Gonzalez/Ferguson. Then he said both young top prospects, Warren and Hampton. And then he ended with Nick Burdi, the talk of camp so far.

The biggest concern with Spencer Jones, like with any gigantic position player, is how much he swings and misses. He has had issues with this previously (but he still has very few ABs between college and the minors) but so far this year in spring training, he has seen 82 pitches and not swung and missed at a single one. He had a single and a walk in 3 ABs today, still rocking a 1.255 OPS.

Every GM around MLB seems to be saying their team is pretty set when queried in the last week or two, but Cashman was just on the telecast today and when he was asked if they were still open to more moves, he said they are currently very active talking trades and to agents about free agents. I don't think that means anything major will happen, just thought it was interesting in contrast to what I've seen so many other GMs say lately.

Yeah, I was coming here to post that. NY has two bench spots up for grabs, Oswaldo Cabrera the favorite for one especially as he can actually play SS, but at some point he's got to hit some.

LeMahieu (3B)
Soto (RF)
Judge (CF)
Rizzo (1B)
Torres (2B)
Stanton (DH)
Verdugo (LF)
Wells (C)
Volpe (SS)

Bench: Grisham, Trevino, 2 more spots

NY is thin at SS in the upper levels of the system, they may need to bring in someone from outside. Jahmai Jones is out of options and on the 40 man, but he doesn't play SS. Vivas has impressed this spring but he also doesn't play SS and is better served playing every day in AAA.

Even as a Sox fan this is awful news. The league needs more excellent pitchers not less. I hope it ends up being just precautionary.

He’s such fun to watch except against the Red Sox. You’re so right; baseball needs these marquee athletes. Blake Snell, c’mon down! You’re the next contestant on The Price Is Right!

Who is the next man up? Loaisiga?
Loaisiga is a reliever, Will Warren is itching for a chance.

Anyway, people are jumping the gun here, especially since (conspiracy theory alert) Boras is Cole's agent. Let's see what the test says before we schedule the surgery.

Judge: It's just a couple of days off, people are so quick to jump to the doomiest possible scenario. He is (hopefully) going to be playing over 100 games this year in CF, happy that he has a few days off in mid-March (he is scheduled to play on Wednesday).

Cole: Obviously we'll see what the MRI says.

Lots of good news today also:

Coincidentally with the Cole news, all of Beeter, Gil and Will Warren pitched today in NY's two split squad games, against legit lineups from BAL and PHI. Those three combined for:

10.2 6 1 1 3 14

Rizzo went 1-1 with 2 walks, he is still rocking a 1.427 OPS. He will be as crucial as any Yankee in the lineup, in the spot behind Soto/Judge, so that is very nice to see.

Austin Wells had a bases-clearing double in the 1st, he has a 1.042 OPS. The more he plays over Trevino, the more dangerous the lineup should be.

Oscar Gonzalez (not on the 40 man) continues to have a nice spring with a 2 run HR in a 0-0 game late, love having him as depth in AAA.

Roderick Arias got his first AB above rookie ball today, he singled. He and Lombard Jr. are the middle infield future, although Volpe will have something to say about that.

Andy Martino on Cole:

"The Yankees are awaiting results of an MRI on the right elbow of reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole, and might not be ready to announce a diagnosis until mid-week.

But for what it’s worth, word around the team is that Cole’s exam is "precautionary," and that there isn’t extreme concern about the situation. While acknowledging that an MRI can result in any number of diagnoses, including worst-case scenarios, the Yankees don’t seem overly worried about losing Cole for a long period of time."

More Martino (who always seems to have reliable team sources for the two NY teams):

“The Cole news has not reignited the Yankees’ onetime pursuit of free agent ace Blake Snell, per league sources.

SNY reported last month that the Yankees pulled their offer to Snell in January, after Snell turned it down and the team signed Marcus Stroman. As of Monday afternoon, nothing had changed on that front.”

That's why I don't put any stock into this stuff about Cole's MRI being precautionary. The Yankees aren't exactly transparent with injuries.

And the White Sox still haven't accepted any of those offers...?
I assume the Cole maybe-injury and the Giolito injury are what they've been waiting for. "Do you want to pay a zillion dollars for Jordan Montgomery or send us a few prospects for Cease?"

The way they are approaching the Cole stuff certainly sounds like a team trying to get something done before announcing the injury.
NY is not going to sign Snell or Montgomery, and they're not going to trade for Cease unless the price drops a lot, which it won't. NY already moved a bunch of prospects for rentals in Soto/Grisham/Verdugo, they can't really afford another rental and especially not one who is far from a sure thing in Cease. They love Warren and Gil and Beeter and Hampton, they will roll with those guys if needed.

(obviously all my opinion/perspective)
