This kind of puts Rizzo on notice s well, doesn't it? If the new hire does not work out he will be next out the door. Word was Williams was hired due to being a low cost alternative to a "name" guy. With the firing of the entire staff seems to me that they are in the market for a "name" guy.

Lars The Wanderer said:He should have been fired the day after he lifted Jordan Zimmermann with 2 outs in the 9th in NLDS game 2.
I almost gave him a pass for that one, but when he brought in a rookie (Aaron Barrett) instead of Clippard in the 7th inning of Game 4 of that series it really confirmed that he had no idea how to manage a bullpen.Lars The Wanderer said:He should have been fired the day after he lifted Jordan Zimmermann with 2 outs in the 9th in NLDS game 2.

Mariners are parting ways with Lloyd McClendon, according to @RyanDivish. Tim Bogar a favorite to take over.
Well, doesn't that leave Bench coach, pitching coach, asst. hitting coach (if they employ one) and 3rd base coach for the new manager to choose? Or did the mail say more?HriniakPosterChild said:
And the new guy won't be able to bring in his own coaches, according to mail just sent to season ticket holders. Among the coaching staff, batting coach Edgar Martinez and infield coach Chris Woodward have been invited to return to the big league staff. Pitching coach Rick Waits and coach Chris Prieto have been invited to return to the Mariners organization.
This says to me the next manager likely won't have a long MLB track record.

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25346962/jason-varitek-interviewed-for-vacant-seattle-mariners-manager-job
The Mariners have interviewed Jason Varitek for their manager opening, sources tell CBS Sports.
Varitek hasn't been eager to leave the Boston area, where his kids live, especially for a West Coast opportunity, so it's also uncertain he'd strongly consider the job. Varitek has not had any managerial experience since retiring in 2011.
Widely recognized as one of the smartest players in the game during his 15-year tenure as Red Sox catcher, he has been serving as a special assistant to the general manager for the Red Sox since late 2012, when then-GM Ben Cherington hired him.
Seattle let him get away once, when it traded him and Derek Lowe for Heathcliff Slocumb, an ill-fated deal for them indeed.
Tim Bogar has been considered among the favorites for the Mariners job. Alex Cora is also a candidate there.
Good news to me. Tacit down the road offer to Jason he couldn't refuse?soxhop411 said:Jared Carrabis @Jared_Carrabis 14m14 minutes ago
Source: Mariners officially made offer to Jason Varitek to manage. He will not be accepting the position, and is staying with the Red Sox.
Any chance he's a bullpen, 1st base, or 3rd base coach next year? Seems like that's the only reason to turn down a manager's gig...Al Zarilla said:Good news to me. Tacit down the road offer to Jason he couldn't refuse?
He may not be ready for a full time gig yet especially if it takes him across the country from his three daughters with his first wife.Boggs26 said:Any chance he's a bullpen, 1st base, or 3rd base coach next year? Seems like that's the only reason to turn down a manager's gig...
Same as Mike Matheny.DrewDawg said:He's never coached or managed before, only worked in front office since retiring from playing.
And joining him on the bench is our old friend and former third base coach for the Red Cox, the man behind the term Bogar'd, ladies and gentlemen, Tim Bogar!DrewDawg said:He's never coached or managed before, only worked in front office since retiring from playing.
Dusty's 66. McKeon won a WS with the Marlins at 72. Dusty seems sound the same to me as when he was managing. Why not, 66 isn't that old.soxhop411 said:Oh nats.... nats...

3X manager of the year. I know, that's about as believable as gold glove awards. There's a dearth of good managers. Look at the two in the ALCS.Papelbon's Poutine said:
I think being a shitty manager is more the issue, as opposed to being old.
