I thought it was channel 25! for some reason I keep thinking all the Americanized Japanese shows were on 25.OMFG phenomenal reference! I was an arrested development 13 year old watching that show after school. CH 56? I can’t recall. Bonus points if you remember that!
You are correct.I thought it was channel 25! for some reason I keep thinking all the Americanized Japanese shows were on 25.

absolutely agreeThis metaphor has to be singled out for its spectacular quality.
Another Star Blazers fan. Best theme song of my youth! And Nova was second to Daphne from Scooby-Doo on my "hot cartoon chicks" list when I was 8.Yes. But this is what it's going to take to sign him. Pretty much all long-term deals suck, I mean this is practically a given at this point--aside from Manny's deal, though I guess you could argue his last year was a bit of a headache, though his production never dipper. However, none of these deals have ever really hamstrung a franchise.
Yamamoto and his Wave Motion Gun of an arm is going to help the Red Sox this year and probably for the next three-to-seven years. That's a huge win for Boston. Worry about years eight through twelve in the 2030s.
Then you are against signing big ticket free agents. Hard stop. Which is fine. But a guy like Yamamoto doesn't come around every offseason. If the only thing that he costs is money (and FSG has BILLIONS, so don't worry too much about where they're going to get their next meals), you find a dump truck, fill it with dollars and park it in front of his house and beg him to play for you.
This is as big of a no brainer as there is.
Morgan did a trivia night at the Chili's in Everett for years as well as Jacob Wirth's before it closed. I believe he's the overnight DJ on WBZ now. Awesome guy, and he took it well on the rare occasions when we called him out on a wrong answer.Anyone remember minor '80s local radio celebrity / bar trivia host Morgan White Jr? IIRC, he was font of Star Blazers trivia.
Morgan was at Coolidge Corner Clubhouse thru the 80s and 90s and into the 00s, and we were regulars there and became good friends. I guested on his VERY late night trivia show a few times. Watched Game 3 of the 2013 ALCS playoffs with him at the “Met Bar” in Legacy Place in Dedham.Morgan did a trivia night at the Chili's in Everett for years as well as Jacob Wirth's before it closed. Yep, not a single "Sources are saying..." "It's being reported that..." or "Insiders have told me...".These aren’t even close to being rumors
Definitely a lefty.
both are very well-playedAn early lefty is what I heard.
Sorry it was unclear. The "we already have one of those in the outfield" was meant to refer to Yoshida's below-average defense, similar to Soto's. Obviously, their offensive production does not compare. You're gonna have to be specific on this one.
Thanks I thought maybe that was it, but the excellent hitter part threw me. I wasn't sure if you were projecting one of the youngsters.Sorry it was unclear. Sources are saying there was reboot of the series a few years ago, going by the original Japanese title 'Space Battleship Yamato' and it is amazingly good. But insiders have told me that it didn't get a release over here, so you have to pirate it. As certain sources have.Another Star Blazers fan. Best theme song of my youth! That that was what he thought was the ship's actual name far longer than he should have. What are sources saying about Space Battleship Yamamoto?
Getting my hopes up again. Sigh…According to Hectór Gómez we're in the top 6 for Ohtani...

The week of the Winter Meetings? What a bold prediction by Morosi's source.
Not pointed at you JM3, but based on what? I realize that this is a far cry from actual journalism, but what ever happened to who, what where, when and why?According to Hectór Gómez we're in the top 6 for Ohtani...

I assume based on what he is hearing from sources. But I put ... after because I don't think it's particularly reliable & don't think we have more than like a 2% chance. Not pointed at you JM3, but based on what? I'm sure the journalists will tell you those questions are for the articles not tweet responses to direct questions, but you're right, "journalism" has taken a real nosedive with its over-reliance on social media to be FIRST on everything instead of accurate on everything. Not pointed at you JM3, but based on what? Boston will "reportedly" be "in on" just about every big name FA or available pitcher. They will gratuitously be lumped in with other teams because of the following. A) three last place AL East finishes in four years coming off the heels of 4 WS Championships in seasons B) a new CBO/PBO who is in charge of facilitating this turn around C) Boston is a big market team that had traditionally been one of the top payrolls in the league who have more room than they have had in recent years that will allow them to spend up to and perhaps a bit over the LT.I assume based on what he is hearing from sources. But I put ... after because I don't think it's particularly reliable & don't think we have more than like a 2% chance.
But yeah, it's just a throwaway response to a Tweet & definitely not actual journalism.
Yeah… A DV guy, a jerk in the clubhouse… he’s a talented pitcher but I won’t root for a team that employs him.Keep this guy off the Red Sox.

I also think it’s simple dollars and sense. This franchise can’t sign both Ohtani and Yamamoto without departing from its general operating model. They appear to be heavily interested in Yamamoto so I can’t imagine there’s much interest in Ohtani due to simple money considerations. And he’ll probably decide before Yamamoto.I stand by my belief that the “Ohtani to Boston???” stuff is, if not orchestrated by the Sox FO, then at least not-so-tacitly encouraged by them as a way to reel the fans back in after the last two seasons. I don’t think that the Dodgers or those other teams are reading these drive-by tweets and thinking “Oh, shit, the *Red Sox* are in on him, too???” As R(S)HF says, they’re really the only ones potentially benefiting from the perception of being on his list - actually strike that, the Giants probably are, also.
I understood this perspective, particularly given the guidance from his agent about the first rule of fight club, but I’m not fully following the 3D chess.I stand by my belief that the “Ohtani to Boston???” stuff is, if not orchestrated by the Sox FO, then at least not-so-tacitly encouraged by them as a way to reel the fans back in after the last two seasons. If you included the threaded tweet, it can just be him giving his opinion answering a question. It’s a very short, self published op-ed, not journalism.I'm sure the journalists will tell you those questions are for the articles not tweet responses to direct questions, but you're right, "journalism" has taken a real nosedive with its over-reliance on social media to be FIRST on everything instead of accurate on everything.
I'm assuming the list is based on something someone near/in the Ohtani camp told him. Because if we're to believe that Ohtani told teams not to leak anything or he'd take them off his list, then his people have to be the source. Not to mention they're the only ones who benefit from that kind of a list anyway. Either that, or this guy did a whole lot of tough legwork to compile his list coming from the other direction (or he's just guessing).
While I'd like to know how I missed Soto's .400 campaign and his triple crown year, I'm more curious about whether Ted Williams a good neighbor.Soto (the second coming of Ted Williams, who lives in the same building as David Ortiz) both fit extremely well within Sox lore.
Um. I did not say anywhere that the Sox are benefiting from being on the list (or any team). My point was that Ohtani is the only party that benefits from the list of front-runners being out there. Even if the front offices aren't reading such things and panicking, their fan bases are and that could have an impact. Any little bit of leverage helps make Ohtani more money.I stand by my belief that the “Ohtani to Boston???” stuff is, if not orchestrated by the Sox FO, then at least not-so-tacitly encouraged by them as a way to reel the fans back in after the last two seasons.
