So apparently The Patriots ended up trading Matt Corral's rookie year for Zappe, Mapu, and the rest of Matt Corral's career. Red Auerbach just smiled knowingly while puffing on a cigar.Guess the Pats weren't the only ones who disliked their recent draft pick backup QB...but at least the Pats got Mapu out of the deal

Believe he has to go on the 53 and today is when they can start moving players to IR.How does this work? I assume he originally cleared waivers, how does he get claimed now? Or did they claim him off their practice squad?
He now has to be on the 53 man roster for the next 3 weeks at a minimum.Believe he has to go on the 53 and today is when they can start moving players to IR.
Right, he’s already on the 53, taking Thornton‘s spot. I just thought the waiver process ended yesterday but I guess not.Believe he has to go on the 53 and today is when they can start moving players to IR.
Corral made Carolina's original 53, they claimed Throckmorton, which necessitated waiving Corral, so he went on waivers a day later than the cuts to make it to 53 league-wideRight, he’s already on the 53, taking Thornton‘s spot. I just thought the waiver process ended yesterday but I guess not.
Anyway, highlights are always fun, looks like Arkansas played without a secondary:

Corral was not part of the original cuts. He made the original 53 but was waived yesterday when Carolina claimed an OL off waivers.I thought we made no claims? I'm confused.
first few weeks my guess would be they might have Zappe active as QB 2 off the PS.Will be interesting if Mac gets injured in game with no experience at backup QB in the offense
The game will be lost anyway if so, and we will get to witness lots of this:Will be interesting if Mac gets injured in game with no experience at backup QB in the offense
"The Carolina Panthers, football-wise, thought Matt Corral had the best film, hands down. But this is about a lot more than that. There's a lot of work required here to make sure they are comfortable off the field with the person. He dealt with a multitude of issues including alcohol and related issues. He admitted publicly to battling depression. He has that unreliable behavior off the field and he really, really struggled in some interviews with teams. That said, the talent is enough to make the Carolina Panthers take a shot with Corral."
This mock had him in first round: 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks grab Matt Corral after trade, Kenny Pickett to Saints - CBSSports.comCorral is also just one of five college quarterbacks since 2000 to register a 3,300-plus passing yard campaign while throwing five or fewer interceptions and rushing for double-digit touchdowns.
Just like the 1960's teams. The game will be lost anyway if so, and we will get to witness lots of this:
(12:20) R.Stevenson right end pushed ob at NE 27 for 2 yards.
1st & 10 at NE 25
(11:33) R.Stevenson up the middle to NE28 for 1 yards.
2nd & 8 at NE 27
(10:45) R.Stevenson up the middle to NE31 for 3 yards.
3rd & 7 at NE 28
(10:12) J.Bailey punts 43 yards to PHI 26, Center-J.Cardona, fair catch by J.Holland.
4th & 4 at NE 31
I'll take Zappe's Wonderlic over Corral's any day of the week. He's definitely more exciting than Zappe.
15 is low...also not great that he just got cut by a crappy team with a tiny QB that will almost certainly get dinged up this year. But at least his passes can stay airborne on a line for more than 20 yards! The Zappe bar is pretty low right now.I'll take Zappe's Wonderlic over Corral's any day of the week.

Moreso than the old retreadsAre young ineffective QBs the new market inefficiency?
I'm not sure it's that bad. They have Andy Dalton backing up Young. They wouldn't be the first team to keep an establish vet as the backup to their high profile rookie QB. There are a lot of benefits - he can step in with no rookie issues if Young gets hurt, probably doesn't mind mentoring at this stage of his career, etc.15 is low...also not great that he just got cut by a crappy team with a tiny QB that will almost certainly get dinged up this year. It depends. If he fumbles on a sack and just lies on the ground without going after the ball, then yes.Is this another "BB galaxy brain" move that looks interesting on paper but its ultimately just franchise destroying arrogance that I need to get angry about? Asking for several thousand friends.
Well on paper I like the idea of them Wu Tanging their QB portfolio a bit. They have options if Jones gets hurt or cannot average more than minus five YPA.It depends. If he fumbles on a sack and just lies on the ground without going after the ball, then yes.
At least it’s not Brian Hoyer.
Exactly. Would much rather sign a young guy with potential than some retread. To C-D's point, his highlights show him running a lot of play action and RPO so he could be fun. He missed all of last season with a foot injury so he hasn't gotten much of an opportunity. Perfect buy low guy to see what you have.Though Zappe really only has minimal experience in the offense. Corral's college offense might be closer to BOB's offense than anything Zappe ran before in terms of RPO usage.
I'll settle for OK.Well on paper I like the idea of them Wu Tanging their QB portfolio a bit. They have options if Jones gets hurt or cannot average more than minus five YPA.
Maybe Corral will be golden.

Didn’t he beat up Gretzky‘s kid? This story claims he dropped in draft due to off-field issues: 2022 NFL Draft: Panthers QB Matt Corral fell to third round due to off-field issues, per report - CBSSports.com

That rule is if you sign a player from another teams practice squad, not if you claim a player on waivers. He now has to be on the 53 man roster for the next 3 weeks at a minimum.
Yes, ended up transferring high schools after that.Didn’t he beat up Gretzky‘s kid?

I'm dying.Maybe Corral will be golden.
Corral looks like he’s got a decent arm, but my biggest takeaway from that highlight video? Tackling in college football, especially by DBs, is atrocious.Anyway, highlights are always fun, looks like Arkansas played without a secondary:
Also it seems that 85% of his throws were to Drummond, who usually didn’t have a defender within 5-7 yards.Corral looks like he’s got a decent arm, but my biggest takeaway from that highlight video? Tackling in college football, especially by DBs, is atrocious.
I guess Marty McSorley's kid wasn't around to protect him.Didn’t he beat up Gretzky‘s kid?
You shouldn't, it's a crap test that has no correlation to playing football..I'll take Zappe's Wonderlic over Corral's any day of the week.

If I'm listening to a sports related Hallelujah spoof, there's only one for me.Claiming backup QB's always reminds me of this
