This is the last of last chances for Fred. Pages could be written about his nonsense down here. He is about the most unprofessional, no-account individual to put on a Washington uniform in the last 15 years this side of Al Haynesworth. That covers a lot of fools.

Let me get this out of the way: "Can he play corner?"

Davis was recently reinstated by the league after getting Gordon-ed for the entire 2014 season for multiple substance abuse violations and DUIs. He was a great pass catching TE from '09-'11.

Highly unlikely he's anything more than a camp body at this point, but who knows?

Camp body. Probably won't make the roster on opening day. He hasn't been a productive NFL player in almost 3 years.

Fred Davis? You mean the one who only could get in 7 games in 2012 and then played to a -6.1 grade in 10 games in 2013? That Fred Davis?

I'm half-expecting him to be released even before the training camp.

Agent:

*Here is a ticket to NE. It's round trip; I have almost as much chance making that roster as you. But that's not the goal. The goal is to demonstrate that you are serious about your career for once, that something is left in the tank, and to get a recommendation from BB to make some other team's roster.

If you screw up, if you are late to a meeting by one minute, or doze off during a meeting for one second, he will cut your ass and then you will be done for goo.*

Yep.

On the other hand, he loves to tip DJs large sums of money. So I'll miss him.

And BB offers this "finishing" ("Finished" ?) school for what reason?  Cause Freddie seems like a good guy *?

If he was an OL, DB or LB then maybe this makes sense.  But a player at a position they are pretty deep at??

I dont know....

LOL

Assault Charge and Lawsuit
On January 10, 2011, a woman by the name of Makini R. Chaka filed a civil lawsuit against the Davis for an altercation that occurred between the two at a nightclub in Washington, D.C. Davis was accused of assaulting Chaka by dumping his drink on her.[24][25] The civil case is closed. During the September 17, 2013 ruling, Judge Laura Cordero wrote that Chaka “has established by a preponderance of evidence that Defendant Fred Davis assaulted and battered her.”
The judge awarded Chaka $186 in medical damages, $575 to compensate for damage to “her boots, her dress, [and] her hair weave.” The judge also awarded Chaka $9,000 in lost earnings and $10,000 in pain and suffering.[26]

Arrest and DWI Charge
On February 21, 2014, authorities in northern Virginia said Davis had been charged with driving while intoxicated.[27] The news came one day after Davis had been suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

Second Assault Charge
On July 23, 2014, D.C. police announced that there was a warrant for Davis' arrest for assaulting his ex-girlfriend on June 2.[28] The next day, Davis surrendered himself to the police.[29]

Davis was on the cusp of being a very good pass-catching tight end.

I'll hold onto that silver lining.

How good is Davis at run blocking? Loading up at TE and the potential Brady suspension suggests to me that coach is prepping a potential run first offensive approach, or at least the ability to implement that if needed.

After the ballghazi nonsense, do the Patriots really want to risk having a guy get the balls all sticky on the sidelines?

How about #103 out of 134 TEs? This is on a current depth chart that includes Gronk & Scott Chandler (#12 on that same list).

He squandered away millions and will compete for the "move" TE spot with Tim Wright.

Maybe it's for the 3 OL and 7 potential receivers configuration?

I basically agree with the consensus that Davis has little chance of making the team, but I think the acquisitions of Davis along with Scott Chandler and A.J. Derby show they're not real happy with Wright and Hoomanawanui at the bottom of the depth chart. I think we know what Uh Oh is at this point, and Wright seemed to fall out of favor as the season went on - after averaging 22-23 offensive snaps a game in the regular season, he played just nine total in the playoffs. I don't think either of them is a lock to make the team.

Right. If Davis is healthy and willing to work, I see no reason why he wouldn't at least supplant Wright on the roster. Guy was on pace for a 1000+ yard season in 2011.

Again, I'm not holding out a ton of hope, but he certainly had the ability to get open before his layoff from the football field.

In the perfect world, Gronk, Chandler, Wright, Davis will make the team, Derby will make it to the Practice Squad and we'll thank HooMan for his efforts.  That would mean than Wright and Davis have both looked good in camp, they both will have to earn a spot this year.

I'd have a hard time seeing both Wright and Davis making the team if Gronk and Chandler are healthy. They're both receiving TE who don't really play special teams; when would they see the field? If they carry a fourth TE, I'd imagine that player would contribute on special teams and / or blocking.

You're right on the ST part - although Tim Wright played a good number of ST snaps.  Maybe it would be between Wright and Davis, my main point is to get rid of HooMan.  Because he's not a top receiving TE a lot of people assume he's a good blocker but he's mediocre there.  I think we can do better with that roster spot, whether we keep 3 or 4 TE.

Well Davis might suck--2011 was a long time ago and 29 is getting old in football.

We have a winner. NE again a DC graveyard, this time for different reasons.
