I turned this on in the 9th because it's win win for me - either I get to see a perfect game, or I get to see a Yankee blow a perfect game. Instead I get to watch the Yankees pour it on against the AAAA A's. Yuck.

Me too, I just want to see the bottom of the 9th!

I don't hate the Yankees much lately, but of any pitcher currently on their roster to do it, German is pretty much a worst-tier outcome.

At least the A's didn't PH, I like it when it's a "natural" 0-3 from all of the starting 9.

During the 6 run inning earlier in the game, they said German actually went to the bullpen and threw a few pitches, do not remember anyone actually doing that mid-game not involving rain delays.

I do see some Yankee fans upset it's German, too. This is going to be an interesting story how it gets covered by the media.
So how many minutes until someone in the media talks about the "adversity" he's overcome.

Philip Humber is clearly the answer there, German won 18 games in 2019 and has 3.6 career bWAR before tonight, Humber had just 0.9.

Couldn't have happened to a worse human. The best part about this Yankees team is being forced to root for domestic abusers and open racists.

It’s actually kind of nice how god does these little things to remind us that he doesn’t care.

Something happening in Detroit against the Jays...

Pulled at 6 2/3, after 91 pitches. Still a no hitter though

I guess you don’t want to overextend your young Ace, but would liked to see if he can go 120 and finish it

Yup. Glad they still got it though. Strange strategy as Detroit probably isn't going anywhere this year. They're heading into the ASB, so why not stretch him out a little further?

He missed a lot of last year with shoulder issues and just came off the 60 day IL about 2 weeks ago. There is no universe where leaving him out there to throw "120 pitches" would have been the responsible thing to do.

Thanks for the color. Still glad they got it against the Jays.

The Tigers have had an entire promising young rotation derailed by injuries over the past couple of years – Manning, Mize, Skubal, Turnbull (who isn't so young anymore). They certainly know better than to try to squeeze an extra out or two out of a guy who stands no chance of completing it anyway. I didn't see it, but Hinch said Manning was becoming noticeably fatigued and throwing more balls than strikes in the 7th anyway.

With it being just a 2-0 game, surely Cleveland will pinch-hit in the 9th. If not, Arias-Straw-Gallagher might be the easiest 9th inning anyone has ever faced to complete a no-hitter. The Guards really didn't field a major league lineup tonight with Josh Naylor hurting, Bo Naylor on the bench and Andres Gimenez only coming in mid-game.
