The Rams select WR Martavis Bryant.

Bryant is bigger and faster than his teammate Sammy Watkins. He doesn't have hands, technique, or a lot of the other traits that make Watkins a complete and elite prospect, but he has some raw tools at his disposal. 6'2" and a 4.42 forty. He went to the Steelers in the fourth, and it sounds like they were surprised he made it there. There have been reports that he'll compete for a starting job, but more likely he's a developmental prospect that may see a little time in the red zone.

Either way, happy to have a big, speedy, high-upside guy to fill out the WR corps after losing LaFell in the supplemental draft.

PMing Tito.

EDIT - hmmmm can't PM tito because it appears his mailbox may be full. "Can't receive new messages". What do we do in this scenario?

WTF is a "nascar Spikes" role?

Is that where you pretend Spikes can only turn left (slowly)?

I actually found a video that explains this... from Madden the video game

The Bills will take S Jaylen Watkins. Good versatility, can also play CB. Adding Banks, Southward and Watkins will hopefully shore up a leaky secondary from last season. I'm mobile if someone could alert the next guys.

Spikes like Brandon Spikes?

Yeah, that's what is throwing me too. I think he means Jermaine Cunningham.

Because the incongruity of "NASCAR" (fast) and "Spikes" (slow) is driving me insane.

That plus NASCAR usually refers to a 3- or 4- DE front and Spikes is a MLB.

3 or 4 DE front with 2 LB's... Spikes is one of the pass rushing LB's. I get it guys. Spikes lines up to rush the passer as an LB.

What does blitzing Spikes have to do with a NASCAR front?

It's a pass rushing front. If you want an LB to rush the passer you should probably select one with pass rushing skills. If we go in a 3 DE look we'd use Bass, Dunlap, Charles Johnson, and Kyle D. Williams. Our LB's would be Lawson and Willis. Lawson would be the typical rusher of the LBs. Willis would drop back into coverage. Occasionally they switch roles.

I guess I don't understand the confusion. If I want my 5 (And I am assuming Bass makes some strides this year) best pass rushers on the field I would use Lawson at LB not DE. Make sense? If not just let me know what I'm either doing or thinking incorrectly.

Edit: real quickly - sometimes both LB's rush the passer as well.

OK, it's just weird that you're calling it the "NASCAR Spikes" front like that's a known thing. Also, it's weird that you think David Bass is a viable pass-rushing option.

I thought we tossed that term around the forum quite a bit. I then googled it some time ago and it's always stuck as a neat pass rushing idea. I might actually search the forum for the discussion if I feel motivated tonight, lol. 121 has a ton of free time with his work and child rearing - he can do it ;). In all seriousness I didn't think a small note in that writeup would generate so much discussion. I'm glad though.

The Bills will take RB Lorenzo Taliferro from Coastal Carolina.

Reason I can't get PM's (or send) is because my subscription lapsed, invoice expired etc.  So, if someone could PM the next guy, and if you have any advice on how to fix my subscription, also all ears.

Trying to add some depth to the D-Line. Phil Taylor, the anchor in my 3-4, will undoubtedly be off the field in passing situations. With only Tommy Kelly as a viable DT I need a guy that can take the stress off Phil while putting stress on the QB.

The San Francisco 49ers select: DT Sen'Derrick Marks

A former 2nd round pick in the '09 draft, Marks has taken a few years to find his niche in the NFL. Last year he finally got his chance when signing with the Jaguars. He played the most snaps of his career (946) and didn't disappoint.

For DTs he was top 20 in sacks, top 15 in hurries, and top 5 in QB hits. This lead to him being the 9th overall Pass Rushing DT by PFFs standards. He struggles in run support, but in my defense he won't see the field in many (or any) run situations.

He's only 27 and he just received a 4 yr/$22 mill contract from the Jaguars. They're hoping he's hitting his prime, and so are we.

While I've already started to address some offensive problems by adding Eddie Royal and Carlos Hyde, I still wanted to give Philip Rivers one more explosive option who can break a game open in one play.  And some insurance for when Ahmad Bradshaw eventually gets hurt.  I've seen how Philip Rivers can thrive with a pass-catching option out of the backfield like Darren Sproles or Danny Woodhead, so I want to give him someone who can do that.  So with that...

The Denver Broncos select.... De'Anthony Thomas, RB

He's the perfect fit for my team at this point.  He'll probably fill a similar role with my Broncos as he will with the real-life Chiefs, filling in the Dexter McCluster role and lining up in a number of different positions.  He has his faults (size, strength), but I think as a third-down option and a guy who can team up with Marquise Goodwin on special teams, I'm excited to have him join my squad.

Give me

Daniel McCullers, DT

Slot him in as a developmental DT for now.

Total project, but a monster. He's probably a reach here, but I knew I wanted him badly, didnt see anyone else I wanted, and figured, Fuck It. Channeling my inner Belichick here and getting the guy I want without regard for convention.

Can someone send a PM for me?

Now that the Steelers have spectacularly upgraded the OL, added a future star in Khalil Mack, and got a terrific red zone option in Fauria, it's time to shore up the DL.

This Alabama grad has a ton of flexibility and will fit right with the likes of Mike Daniels, Akiem Hicks, and Roy Miller.

Seoul Steelers scarily select:

DE Ed Stinson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JnqEdwcNtw

The trait that our FO values most is his ability to be a solid five-tech, but also be able to kick inside.

Has "ideal" build at 6-3, 287 lbs, and impressed a ton of scouts with his core strength and motor. That has enabled him to be a straight-up rusher, disrupting the pocket.

He needs to add variety to his technique and work on getting off the snap faster, but as a rotational player he'll add a ton to our DL depth.

Now our front-seven has caught up to the rest of our AFCN competition:
  • Mike Daniels / Derek Wolfe
  • Akiem Hicks
  • Roy Miler / Ed Stinson
  • Justin Houston
  • Dannell Ellerbe
  • Vontaze Burfict
  • Kahlil Mack / Alex Carrington
DM PM'd.

Ha! I had him at the top of my list and was laughing when he went off the board two picks ahead of mine. Happy with Stinson but would have been thrilled with McCullers as a massive nose to spell Hicks and 2-gap.

Well, I guess it's finally time to paper over the gaping hole I have at QB.  I don't expect to get much quality out of the position, but I wanted someone young and maybe with a chance to play.  With the real-life Houston Texans having an absolute mess at their QB situation, this guy may get cut or he may start.  It's worth a flyer since the competition isn't too fierce.  And at this point in the draft, there just ain't much out there.

The Seattle Seahawks select Zach Mettenberger, QB and keep their fingers crossed.

The 'Necks are going to take this opportunity to replace one of our losses in the "steal" portion of the draft, and select:
FS-Mike Mitchell

He was a head scratcher of a 2nd round pick by the Raiders, and never really played all that well there. Then he went to the Panthers and played tremendously last year, and parlayed that into a big deal with the Steelers. While we're not counting on Mitchell to replicate his 2013, we think he should be a good performer in our secondary, as he can cover a lot of ground and occasionally lay a big hit as needed. With our strong front 7, we think Mitchell would have continued success like he did for the Panthers. Nice to be able to snag him this late in the draft.

The G-Men are going to roll with a secondary pick as well and take James Ihedigbo, SS

Ihedigbo fills a massive hole the G-men had as a function of the retirement of Gerald Sensabaugh.  The Giants are going to have holes in pass coverage between Reed and Ihedigbo but damn if their run stopping wont be tremendous.

I think you mean the real-life Tennessee Titans, not the Texans.

Because the Texans aren't unsettled - they've got Ryan Fucking Fitzpatrick, game manager extraordinaire and top 15 NFL QB (oh Ed Hillel).

Should be bsj, actually, since he "stole" baka's pick in the second round.

Like the Matthews pick ... was hoping to reunite him with his Wolfpack teammate Kaepernick. Has shown he can produce in the NFL to some degree but still has some upside.

EDIT: I went ahead and PM'd bsj

Are we having another "supplemental" draft during training camp?

If we do it should be 2-4 players max two weeks before the season starts, you know?

We will need to replace injured players - so maybe the day after the week 3 pre-season Sunday games?

I'm up for doing more rounds, either now or later, but I think we should have an IR mechanism where we can pick somebody up if one of our players goes on IR (and then have to drop an additional player in the offseason).

I think week 3 pre-season is too late for a supplemental draft - if we start then, we'll finish like three weeks in to the regular season.

I like the supplemental draft, but I think we should keep it to 2 players. We've drafted a good amount of players this offseason and I think keeping the player pool larger for next year will keep people more interested and make the coming years more fun as we creep up on the full 53.

Also, although the IR mechanism seems fun, I'm against it because
1. The more active managers will be all over this, and I'm not sure all 32 people signed up for a full year fantasy type season.
2. Having a guy (especially a lesser player) go on IR could be seen as an advantage. Since we aren't at the full 53 yet there are still a ton of good players out there. Having the first shot at the hot players of 2014 just because your 5th DL went down doesn't seem entirely fair. It's also not fair to lose your P or K in the middle of the season but when it comes to evaluating we can at least assume that you got a replacement (probably someone below average which seems fair).

I don't like that at all. Somebody has a back-up go down and they're able to grab whatever break-out player who would go in the first round of the supplemental draft for free? If players get injured we should assume they get replacement level filler.

Spreadsheet should be up to date. I put colored backgrounds on picks that were stolen to show clearly where they went/came from.

Turrable has his round 5 pick to make.
BSJ on the clock until 11:53 to make his stolen pick from bakahump.
Was not Wasdin is on deck.

I'm good for a supplemental draft during the preseason but I think the discussion should be in the Rules and Procedures thread rather than mucking up this one.

Good luck man. I was wondering when he was going to stop falling. Had our team not had so many damn holes to fill he would have never gotten passed us :( (assuming KFP would indulge me there which he had every right to tell me to STFU). Sutton is a binky of mine and I think he is going to shine in the NFL. Boom/bust guy.
