A couple notes about this pick...

1. We promised Tanky McTacticalneck that we'd go offense.
2. Surprisingly, there's a rather deep pool of talent I expect to be available at my places of other need when my next pick comes around again.
3. My team is built upon Tom Brady.
4. Tom Brady needs weapons.
5. As an owner, you have to do what you can to play to your strengths.
6. If the opportunity to strengthen yourself and steal from a division rival presents itself, do it.

The Bengal Bay Bengals select...

DWAYNE BOWE, WR (formerly of the Browns)

This closes the books on stealing from the Browns and probably results in at least ten "he's a dick!", "yep, total dick" PMs between KFP and SMU in the next ten minutes.

Ah, see there's where you're wrong my friend. This is the RFP where he'll be part of a WR group being delivered pigskins of love from one Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr., otherwise known as The Best There Was, The Best There Is and The Best There Ever Will Be.

Not Rylaine Fitzgabson. Or the mediocrity that is Alex Smith.

Just a hypothetical, but if I want to bow out next round and take whatever 8th round pick is left at the end is that alright?

I agree with this.  Wibi should get a little leeway as the new guy.  Wibi, who do you want to drop/undrop?

No undrops just looking at clearing a little chaff.

Just to confirm though anyone I drop would be replaced using picks at the back end of this whole draft process, correct?

I'm confused. I thought the ruling was to allow you to re-configure your team's add/drop list. So take one off, put one on, that sort of thing. Same rules as everyone else, just late.

Dropping additional players and then getting supplemental draft picks seems like something entirely different.

No if you want to drop somebody then you need to undrop somebody.

I'm good with giving you a do-over on which four guys you dropped but I don't think its fair to apply special rules in addition to that in terms of how many guys you drop and how you fill out your roster.

The Bears select:

Ryan Mathews, RB, SD

I did a double-take when I saw that he was available.  I need more of an everydown back to complement Sproles, and he's the best available.

Bowe was the one guy we struggled with cutting. We're banking on Kelce and Brown to really contribute this year. Bowe is a good WR but has been on the decline the past two years. Is that a QB situation? Maybe. But he's also dealt with some nagging injuries and concussions. The truth in this exercise is that for our team we need to gamble. If we lose at least we get a Draft pick and can get a decent QB. If we win? Well, perhaps we'll only be a small underdog in the playoffs. If our rookies make a big step next year we'd have imo the best defense in the league. For that to happen though Brown, Cyprien, and Rhodes need to take another step forward. If they do we're looking at a tremendous front 7 and 3 very good to elite DBs.

Bowe should make a good WR2 who can stretch the field. You want some fade routes? He can do that. I'm sorry to see him go but we figured he'd be gone.

edit: poetic that 121 snagged him. As much as we grief each other it's a fantastic pick for his squad and weakening a divisional opponent makes it even better forhim.

Reed's the second player taken from the Bucs so they are now off-limit as well. Spreadsheet updated.

Funny how the draft's gone: 8 teams have already lost 2 players, 9 have lost just 1, and 15 haven't lost any - including the final 4 playoff teams.

EDIT: KFP and SMU PM'd.

He's the third (or hopefully lower) choice in between the 20s and higher on the depth chart in the red zone. His blocking ability (the only thing he seemed to do well last year) downfield for Cruz and Wright and Ellington will come in very useful.

And my pick was coming off the Ravens, Steelers or Browns - I'm just glad I had a bit of choice to make and am sad I probably won't get the chance next round.

I was surprised you guys didn't protect Cyprien (especially over Travis Kelce and his lost year), but you got away with it.

I think you could afford to lose Bowe because you have a similar age / quality guy in Jennings and this draft is stacked at the position. I would expect you guys to draft a WR whether or not you lost one here, so I don't think it alters things too much.

I think that's a nice tiebreaker, but at the end of the day, we're all losing two players and gaining two players; it's more psychological than anything to poach from a divisional opponent. I wouldn't restrict myself to that (I did grab one of SSF's players, but that's because Galette was the best edge rusher available).

Justin Blackmon, WR, Jags

Get the feeling that, worst case, he is suspended 8 games next year and well have him for playoffs.

Hes a gamechanger and has the ability to be a legit #1 WR.

We need that.

Can someone PM whoevers next?

Meaning Bowe wasn't the best WR available for an offense built around Brady?

The Rams select OLB Daryl Smith.

Having just inked a 4-year deal, and turning 32 just a week or two ago, Smith still has a lot left in the tank. He's one of the best coverage LBs around and before last year was a solid run defender as well. Our LB situation was bleak last year, and hoping that Smith's veteran presence stabilizes things a bit.

That should be the last steal from Myt1's Cowboys.

PMing Tito.

P.S. love the Jordan Reed pick he was right at the top of my board as well.

Could of had a better receiver in Blackmon.
Let's put aside our ownership hats and discuss. Frankly this is an interesting quandry.

Bowe has a proven track record but is on the decline and has some injury concerns. Blackmon is coming off a previous (read year ago +) knee injury. Blackmon also is a character concern and is facing a suspension. Based on skill right now I'd take blackmon. Higher risk but more reward. Bowe definitely has a huge edge in floor but let's see how this plays out. I think Blackmon can do more as a receiver and matches up better against physical corners. Blackmon has greater star potential but it remains to be seen if that will be in the NFL or the Arena football league.

Now that all my players are protected I can boast my prowess(?) in picking running backs (drafting any half-decent players on OL or DL? Not so much).

I would have sworn Ben Tate -- part of the triple-headed monster of a RB crew with CJ Spiller and Marcel Reece -- would have been one of the ones to get picked off, ahead of Stills or Junior.

Matthews was right up there in the RB pool to start with, and is indeed a terrific pickup for MM.

Would it be possible to hide the rows of the teams that have already had the max stolen? Might clean it up visually and help ensure no one flubs later.

If they've had two stolen, they are off limits, so those players aren't available.

I don't think Bowe is in decline, I think he's just too far away for dink and dunk Smith to target him.

I can only speak for myself but I didn't put a single RB on my board. Not enough value IMO. Not unless they can add to the passing game. I think if my run blocking and passing game is good enough I can put any RB back there and get 4 yards per.

I agree Tate was one of the best RB available, but edge rusher was a shallower pool (both here and in the rookie draft) and a bigger need for me, so I went with Galette. The guy I was surprised you left exposed (and got away with) was D.J. Hayden. Barron, too. You had some tough calls here as far as your protects.

Like a few others I had my eye on Jordan Reed. With the retirement of Tony G I need a big receiver and a good RZ target.

The San Francisco 49ers steal, TE Martellus Bennett

At 6'6" 265 he has the size to match Tony G. He may not have the same speed but he's got good hands and is much more competent in the blocking game than Tony G ever was. He was top 10 in Targets, REC, Rec yds, YDS/Rec, and YAC and was 11th in TDs. He's a top 10 receiving TE by almost all standards and he already has the chemistry down with Eli. In 2012 with Eli at the helm he was the 5th ranked TE by PFF's rankings and I'm hoping he'll match those numbers with the 49ers.

edit: Didn't think I'd feel bad stealing players but Laddie lost his two best receivers and is now done losing players.

LaAdrian Waddle OL from the Cardinals

Thought process here is this....

I badly need a good solid right side OL with the ability to grow. Waddle is 22....he can slide immediately into my RG spot (he has the size despite being slated for RT this season), and also has the ability to play at RT if we have injury concerns. He looked really good last year when given the chance to start, so much so that he has been handed the role this year.

He has a chance to be a really good player for a long time for the Falcons. Addresses a big need.
