No, he's wrong. The Sox have three top 50 prospects in AA or higher. Margot, Owens and Johnson is a solid trio of near major league ready talent. Pairing one or two of them with a high ceiling low minors player would be tough for any other team to beat if the Sox are willing to go that route.

So you're focusing on his 4 innings of work this season as opposed to his past three full seasons.scotian1 said:Ryan Cook with his stats fit right in with this pitching staff.

Rudy Pemberton said:Much of the Padres hate seems overdone. Upton was the one guy that they probably should have moved, but who knows what kind of offers were out there. Worst case they keep him and get a pick (pretty big trades have happened in August before, they could move him). They certainly didn't have to move Kimbrel....and the other guys (Melvin, Shields, Kemp) had deals they weren't going to be able to move now.

Cook for Panda? All good!
Edit: I was kidding. You knew I was kidding, right?

It's the always popular PTBNL going back to Oakland. Betting it's nothing of note, and probably based on how Cook does the rest of the year.

What could they possibly get for Kennedy and Venable, two guys who can they likely get through waivers. They have an option on Benoit, but yeah, could have moved him.
Hey, the phone never rang. We probably don't have anybody who's wanted. They know we're not trading our young guys.

Would have been an unbelievable move for The Padres. Huge miss.jon abbey said:
Also evidently NY was willing to take that terrible Gyorko deal off their hands as well as send them Mateo in a Kimbrel deal, but SD turned them down (thankfully for NY). Preller was incompetent in the offseason and is still incompetent.

Al Zarilla said:Steve Lyons just really slammed Sandoval about his weight gain, ability to play third any more...lack of lateral movement, playing too shallow, even used the words "eating himself off the team." That is all correct, IMO, and nothing new to me here, but I hadn't heard it shouted out point blank before.
Some validity to this but Steve Lyons? The voice of reason?Al Zarilla said:Steve Lyons just really slammed Sandoval about his weight gain, ability to play third any more...lack of lateral movement, playing too shallow, even used the words "eating himself off the team." But aren't the guys they want to unload the types who can clear waivers? Who would put in a claim on Kemp, Shields, etc.?IpswichSox said:

I know, Lyons is Lyons, but I think he nailed it in this case, and I was almost shocked to hear someone from the local media tell it like it is.mauidano said:Some validity to this but Steve Lyons? The voice of reason?
Cafardo wasn't blunt like Lyons but he did say the Sox shouldn't be afraid to move Sandoval. I am not a Hanley fan but he really beat himself up last night with foul balls off his instep and knee. He looked to be in a good deal of pain. They need to outfit him with protective gear.strek1 said:Cafardo wasn't blunt like Lyons but he did say the Sox shouldn't be afraid to move Sandoval. "It isn't working out so move him".
I also got a kick out of what Lyons said about Hanley not being in Lineup tonight. "He got a cold from the ice bucket challenge" LOL

Same reason they traded Victorino for nothing. To clear up a roster spot and move in other guys who could be useful in the future. The Sox now have more playing time for JBJ and Castillo with Victorino gone. With Napoli gone you have options potentially with Shaw, Panda, Hanley dtcgeoduck no quahog said:
Why on earth would the Red Sox trade anyone in a lost year unless it brought back something of future value? They've got another 8 months to maximize things. Maybe you'd like to see a bucket of vomit on the bench, but there's always a possibility a barrel is out there.
And Hanley is the future DH. Mr. Ortiz will not play forever.
