I think the argument is that players having high cap hits is likely to make teams be willing to raise the players' % in future CBA negotiations. I.e., if teams can sign whoever they want while sitting at 92%, there's very little internal pressure to increase the players' allotment, whereas if, say, Kraft, wants the Pats to be able to fit Brady, Revis and a few other players who are on very high salaries, then maybe they're willing to up the cap %.amarshal2 said:

I'm not being intentionally obtuse. I don't think you or quint has explained this position well at all.
I'm not sure I buy the argument, because I think NFL owners are more principled than this during CBA negotiations, but that's the line of thinking as I understand it.
