HOLIDAY, Fla. - One person was killed Tuesday after a plane registered to eight-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.
It was not immediately known if Halladay was flying the plane.
Halladay's ICON A5 light sport aircraft crashed into the Gulf 10 miles west of St. Petersburg at about 1 p.m., the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
The sheriff's office leading the investigation just confirmed it in a presser.I'm only seeing one source confirming it's him:

I don't know how reliable that site is. Where are you all getting the info?

Yeah, guy was a dominating starter during the steroid years. Always crushed the Yankees. His Cy Young season in ‘03 is even more impressive when you look at the offenses he was facing in the division that year. 11 starts vs Bos and NYY who were #1 and #2 in most offensive categories.
Hard to believe that you thought this was an even remotely acceptable thing to post.Hard to believe that he died flying a plane despite never being a member of the Yankees.
We were all thinking it.Hard to believe that you thought this was an even remotely acceptable thing to post.
On a website that literally celebrates the anniversary of Thurmon Munson's death, (which is beyond terrible) what do you expect?Hard to believe that you thought this was an even remotely acceptable thing to post.
I loved it even against the Red Sox, given the number of times he matched up against Pedro back then... just an absolutely perfect opponent that created drama for an in-division matchup. Doc vs Pedro was appointment viewing. Despite being on a division opponent he was one of my favorite non-Sox players back then. This news blows. RIPAlways loved watching him pitch (when it wasn't against the Red Sox). He had a composure that was fierce, intimidating.
It's even his background picture for his twitter page. This is so awful. Based on his twitter feed he bought that plane on October 12th, and was so incredibly excited about it that it was almost the only thing he tweeted about for the last month.
Right there with you. Halladay was a worthy opponent. I had a ton of respect for him whether he was pitching against the Sox or not.I loved it even against the Red Sox, given the number of times he matched up against Pedro back then... just an absolutely perfect opponent that created drama for an in-division matchup. Judging by photos I think it may have been a plane you could land in the water. It's even his background picture for his twitter page.
I really hope he wasn't doing anything dumb like flying too low like his tweet says
He should make the HOF. Arguably the best pitcher of his era. I'm not saying that because of the tragedy today.Oof, this always happens out of nowhere.
Halladay was really damn good. His peak was HOF caliber but he lost it really fast and a bit early, probably Hall of Very Good. Absolutely terrible his life is over already.
Cory Lidle rubbed off on him in 2003.Hard to believe that he died flying a plane despite never being a member of the Yankees.
Well, for context the A5 is made for water landings. It's an floatplane. It's even his background picture for his twitter page.
I really hope he wasn't doing anything dumb like flying too low like his tweet says
Phrasing?Keep in mind that just before he exploded on the scene, he was sent all the way down to Single A after posting an ERA over 10, a rare feat in baseball history. It was in Dunedin that he retooled his delivery and discovered the cutter that made him a dominant pitcher for nearly a decade.
I was wondering if Corey Lidle would get lost in the shuffle. On a website that literally celebrates the anniversary of Thurmon Munson's death, (which is beyond terrible) what do you expect?
At first I thought it was intentional and was looking for more wordplay. I can't quite figure out what to expect from this place these days.Phrasing?
