Fred just started the show, his foot way worse, swollen enough he can’t wear flip flops and in pain. After 5 min he said he felt light headed and had to go to break and is gone. Scary stuff, hope he’s alright and gets a doctor who knows what they’re doing to look at it.

Noticed he wasn't on, but didn't know that. Hopefully nothing too serious.
I'm just glad he left to go get it checked out. He started out saying he'd go in a few days and Rich & Jon were pushing him to go sooner. Reminds me of years ago when my wife got poison ivy, that turned into a staph infection in her arm. it went from not serious to getting daily steroid shots at the doctor and serious concerns about if they wouldn't have to do something drastic literally overnight. She was fine at the end of it but a scary 4-5 days.

Now Joe Murray is crapping all over Mac. Oh God his analysis is horrible. Says the magic number is 21 points, Rich is pushing back laughing at him saying yes if you score more points than the other team you lose.

His take would fit right in around here lately in Game Threads and BBtL.

IIRC he did go late last week to get it checked out, so to your point at least he's getting it evaluated. Pretty scary it's still flaring up.

Yes, he said the doctor last week put him on some different antibiotics, but they don't appear to be working and he got significantly worse over the weekend. If it's flaring up that bad and he's on antibiotics, time to get to the ER or his own doctor in my opinion immediately (The other doc he saw last week was not his doctor, but another doctor at the same practice)

what the hell happened with Joe Murray today? Checked in around 9:50 and he was legit pissed at some of the backlash he was receiving. Did you have a bad Mac Jones take? Seemed like Rich was busting his balls but you could tell Joe was pissed

I’ve noticed that Rich really pushes back on Murray a lot lately. And Joe does not like it at all. About a month ago, Joe wasn’t on and Fred and Rich discussed how Joe had been complaining constantly that he didn’t have a full time job at 98.5 yet. And Rich said if he wants a full time job in radio he needs to go to another market because it’s not happening here anytime soon. I’m sure Joe heard that and was pissed.

Joe was talking in circles all morning today about Mac. There is plenty to criticize Mac and the Pats for but Joe really wasn’t making his thoughts clear at all. He said Mac isn’t fit to be the best player on the Pats (which is whatever) but then he said Mac isn’t in a position to succeed because they don’t have good talent around him like Tua. So Rich said then that means it’s the coaches fault right? And Joe said no it’s because Mac isn’t the guy. Usually Rich let’s stuff like that go but he really pushed back on Joe a lot.

Joe might be one of the softer skinned personalities at the station. He doesn't take it well when anyone pushes back on him. He spent most of the summer getting preemptively upset when he'd share a non-sports take, then go "what, I only have to talk about sports??? Screw that!"...when nobody took exception to him doing so in the first place. I think at a basic level he considers his opinions "facts" for some reason, then gets mad when anyone disagrees. I like him a lot when he's having fun, but he can also be completely insufferable at times because he comes across as 'Charlie in the mailroom' with some of his takes & associated stubbornness.

His Te'o take was another example of getting caught in a take. He said the NCAA should retire Te'o's number, but rather than catch himself and realize how absurd that was, he got pissy and tripled-down on it. Anyone in their roles is bound to say some stupid shit, so I don't mind the initial opinion, but you should be willing to walk it back or do it with a wink to the audience once you realize how dumb the opinion was.

He’s really not good at all. The only reason he gets so much airtime is you can tell Fred gets a kick out of his weekend show. Rich doesn’t take him seriously at all, nor should he.

Murray always has hot takes and either backs down or gets mad when he’s challenged.

I enjoy Joe in reasonable doses. He can be a bit much when he's on for the whole show and he's defending a weird take. His Mac schtick today wasn't entertaining at all, it was just convoluted and boring.

If Gorman retires and Wallach gets the Celtics radio job full time with Grande moving to TV I really hope Murray is not a serious candidate for the headline job. T&R are great because of the casual approach to sports. Murray would ruin it with his hot takes

I think Wallach makes way too much money to give up T&R, let alone lifestyle.

With them being number in the ratings, their bonuses must be crazy as most shows bonuses are tied to ratings. Pretty easy gig too - minus the getting up early part vs. the grind of going on the road of a play by play guy. But who knows.

I think Wallach would 100% go to the C's gig if offered. It'd be a lifelong dream and he's just 60 now, so he could do it for a few good years then retire.

I really really like Joe, I don't think he's the right 3rd chair for them over Arcand. I'd be happy with either one, but Arcand is very quick and sarcastic and can fit in well with Fred (assuming Fred makes it out alive this week).

Get well soon Fred!

It's like expert stock pickers. If you were an expert you'd just shut your mouth and make a shit load of money instead of telling all the world to hear.

Today Joe mentioned how he got his Indy pick wrong because they had lost something like 6 in a row to Jacksonville, so he just thought it was time for them to break that streak. There's a sure-fire gambling strategy, right?! I couldn't come up with that on my own!

I find a lot of the gambling segments entertaining because T&R tend to play them for laughs. But on the whole it's just terrible radio.

Joe comes across MUCH better when playing off the very salty Lifshatz. On his own, he tries waaaay too hard for the hot takez and is tough to take seriously. Right now it's he and Jim Murray doing the Pats post game shows. I can't say that's the greatest combo. Having said all that, if they want to replace say Adam Jones with Joe for the weekday late show slot, I would take that change in heartbeat. Give him that "full time" gig if any.

I like Joe more than most. I think he'd be a good third on T&R. He can talk about tons of stuff other than sports which is what T&R is.

I also think Wallach has outright admitted if offered the Cs job he'd take it

I don’t like Joe at all. The poster above who compared him to Gresh isn’t far off.

I think Rich has a great point, that Joe should move somewhere and pay his dues before he expects to get a full-time gig in a major market. If he lost some of the townie schtick and got better at making and defending his arguments, as well as just improve at being on the radio (I’ve rarely heard him not mess up an update or its sponsor) he’d be better off.

Like what? Besides food and gambling. He’s unlistenably awful. Any time I see him on the show that day I listen to something else
I find the betting stuff interesting. Not because I care about his picks but as someone who gambles I relate to a lot of his stories.

Local food stuff. The townie stuff. I don't mind the wrestling stuff even though I don't care about the sport.

I do think when he's on T&R he tries too hard to be a SPORTZZZZZ GUY. When he's in his weekend slot it's a free for all.

Like I said, I like him more than most

It’s a similar issue with Jim Murray. Weekends Jim’s not bad. Weekday hot take emo trying to play into Felger and Mazz Jim Murray is horrendous.

I’ll also say Rich has the ability to bring out the worst in everyone. Rich is great but he needs Fred to keep him in check and call out his annoying tendencies. Rich can’t be left alone like when Fred was in rehab.

I'll go one further and say Mazz is the same on the Baseball Hour. He's still a lazy hack but in the hour he's a little more focused on actual baseball info and not trying to out shtick Felger. He also has some real guests that he can ask interesting questions to and have a civil dialogue about the Sox

The essence of Joe’s take is that a) Mac is not “The Man” for the Patriots and never will be, b) his performance as the leader of the NEP offense after 20 career games is below average, and that c) Mac “is bad”. He reached this conclusion and demanded discussion from Rich and Wallach. They chided him for being all over the place and he got mad. He justified his take by saying he “did three and a half hours of analysis” and that these weren‘t “opinions, these are facts”. That only made Rich and Wallach giggle even more, and they proceeded to play Fart Court songs to try and change the subject, which only enraged Murray. It was funny to everyone but him. He’s bad at sportz.

The thing about Rich is he approaches sports talk from the angle of a fan, not so much as an “expert”. It comes across in his questions for Ainge/Stephens, when he gets something in his head he’ll keep asking. The one that comes immediately to mind is when he insisted on bringing up Anthony Davis every week. Rich would fit in great with every other show across both stations

The thing with all these guys is they act a certain way on their main shows because it gets ratings. Whether it’s the Joe Show, Baseball Hour, or Gasper and Murray those guys can act more like their normal selves because they can.

I actually look forward to the Joe show on weekends because I’m either doing yard work or errands so it’s entertaining.

I really like LeRoy on the weekends as well, but the Joe Show is the best.

In case anyone where was wonder, Fred was back today. he went to the ER, the put him on it sounded like 2 different anti-biotic IV's, gave him 2 new antibiotics and has to go back today / tomorrow if it isn't better. Sounded like something that was going to turn pretty ugly if he didn't go yesterday so good for Fred!

I find that Rich is all frenetic positive energy, while Fred is all casual negative energy. It's why they work so damn well together, but when one is out it totally throws the balance of the show off.

Yes I'm sure the Cs ownership is scrolling twitter to get the temperature of the fan base before making a season-altering decision

Fred's airplane segments are some of my favorites. I'm 100% with him and these stunts / fun activities have no place on a plane. It's so obnoxious

Fred is out again today. That’s three days in the past week, supposedly due to a “foot infection.” Hmmmm.
It’s sad that because Fred had a problem and went to rehab that when he’s got something that appears rather serious people will default to he’s drinking again. He’s got an IV PICC line in and was giving himself a shot during the show for the infection.

Fred is in now. Anyone know exactly what happened? He’s been upset as it sounds like someone with the Celtics accused him of putting something out there about the female employee? I missed where that started but he’s not happy

Yesterday he made a comment clearly kidding that they were going to spend the show trying to figure out who the female Celtics staffer was. Apparently someone at the Celtics misheard him and complained to his boss about it.

Not surprised at all that the Celtics are not happy a radio show is talking about outing the private life of a non-public figure in their employ, even jokingly. Did Fred honestly think there wouldn't be some pushback? He can be very thin-skinned sometimes.

I don’t recall them even suggesting it jokingly. Dan Lifshatz asked if they were ok with speculation and they immediately shot him down. Later they sarcastically referred to that exchange, but I don’t recall it being floated even jokingly. I could’ve missed the segment though.

From what I heard on there today, he was pissed at Lifshatz for wanting to speculate on who the female staffer was on air and Fred was dead set against it.
Yeah, that was an insanely tone deaf and dumb suggestion from Lifshatz. I don’t know if he has the same drive to get into radio full time like Murray, but that demonstrated horrible instincts.
