That's a really good way of looking at it. The way he said these things was honestly so half-assed, too, like he *had* to say these whacky things, but you could also tell it was just a poor schtick.
To be fair, Rich was completely awful in that segment. That segment is why Rich needs Fred and why Rich sucks at hosting shows. I can’t blame Murray for that one. This week also made me dislike Joe Murray a lot more than I did (I know others on here beat me to that sentiment). When he was on with Rich, he spent a segment getting peeved that Rich wouldn't believe something about Jaylen because Wiggy reported it. He kept making the point that Wiggy is an ex athlete and, because of that, his reporting is beyond reproach. WIGGY. He's spent enough time on T&R to know that the hot takez don't really fit the show.
Beyond that, he does the thing where he shares an opinion and gets pre-mad that people don't agree with it before they even have a chance to respond. Drives me nuts. Maybe he's just overworked doing all the extra shifts, but if I had guys like Fred and Rich taking me under their wing, I'd work my ass off to try and emulate what they do while keeping my own voice. If you squint, Joe could be a Fred like voice to play off Rich, but instead he tries to be WEEI/Felger version one million.
So fucking funny. This one and the recent QVC knife guy have been all-timers.I was dying today during their Van life / Cruising New England segments, thats T&R at their best.

Agreed with both! I don't get to listen much anymore because of working from home most of the time, but those two brought be back to the heyday of Dating on Demand, Drunken Redsox Recaps with Chili Guy, Faster Guy, and Bwob. Thank you for pointing those two bits out. When the guys are on - they are the best thing on radio. So fucking funny. This one and the recent QVC knife guy have been all-timers.
“Over 5000 skulls”…those plus Brookline 911 are just goldSo fucking funny. This one and the recent QVC knife guy have been all-timers.
It probably does a bit, but I don't think a lot of Matty's audience is going to be interested in T&R. It's probably a combined drop off of the Hillman.Has to help that Matty is no more.
Wow! 16 years in Boston and their numbers are just getting better! It seems fair to say that their place in Boston is secure for as long as they want to stay.
Totally agree with this. Really glad to see them getting what they deserve. It's so great to see them succeed. Sports radio is such a wasteland of derivative personalities and relentless negativity. Love that a show predicated on having fun can do this well.
Between that, the Joe Murray/Bird recap, the segment on the band Bread, it's been a solid morning. This public access channel bit is absolutely hilarious!!!
On my drive off the Cape on Saturday I was listening to the Joe Show and heard that whole thing live. Was so, so funny.Between that, the Joe Murray/Bird recap, the segment on the band Bread, it's been a solid morning.
Fred hearing Brandy for the first time was shocking considering how much music they both know.Between that, the Joe Murray/Bird recap, the segment on the band Bread, it's been a solid morning.
I know some people here hate Joe Murray, but I love it on the weekends, the same way Fred does. It's just hours of nonsense, food talk, random Massachusetts topic of the day and whatever else is going on. It's oddly fascinating to listen to.On my drive off the Cape on Saturday I was listening to the Joe Show and heard that whole thing live. Was so, so funny.
It was really just like looking at a car crash. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop. I usually listen to over/under especially during football but never to his own show.I know some people here hate Joe Murray, but I love it on the weekends, the same way Fred does. It really is. One minute you're having a Ocean vs Lake discussion, which turns into what's the difference between a lake and a pond, then 30 seconds later they're talking about the 4 things you're allowed to have mayo on, then they're ripping on Scarface in the same 14 minute segment and it goes on and on and on. It's not sports radio, which they freely admit, it's basically 2-4 hours of a stream of consciousness. It was really just like looking at a car crash. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop. Joe was great on Friday. He seemed to have a ton of energy - that version of Joe is a great fit on the show. Plus it helps that Fred has a never ending fascination with his diet/love of food. The Joe Murray pizza song killed
Nothing beats a T&R recap of a full wrestling weekend of J-Stew and Sarge.
Apparently the others, including Rich, had heard of this already, but it was Fred and my introduction to the "McMurray". For those unaware Murray worked at McDs and constructed a sandwich of three qtr punders, two chicken patties, the bottom and middle buns of a Big Mac(no top...just chicken patty!?!) plus bacon cheese and something else. I was dying and he's wise to be on a health kick.Joe was great on Friday. He seemed to have a ton of energy - that version of Joe is a great fit on the show. I'm guessing Joe being down 50+ lbs and eating healthy has him running with a ton more energy.Joe was great on Friday. He seemed to have a ton of energy - that version of Joe is a great fit on the show. Plus it helps that Fred has a never ending fascination with his diet/love of food.
Oh my god.Apparently the others, including Rich, had heard of this already, but it was Fred and my introduction to the "McMurray". His schedule must be a nightmare too. I think he has a full-time job, plus does all this fill-in work?I'm guessing Joe being down 50+ lbs and eating healthy has him running with a ton more energy.
I’d try it.Apparently the others, including Rich, had heard of this already, but it was Fred and my introduction to the "McMurray". He does some sort of office job normally. The other day he was doing emails while filling in for Rich and Fred called him out. So he’s working at least 7-9am on Saturday, 4 hours Sunday afternoon, filling in 6-10 at times and then working 10-6 or whatever after. His schedule must be a nightmare too. It’s not like he’s doing manual labor or i feel bad for him but he does seem to have the hustle and drive to make a career in radio at some point.
I now have Harry’s McMurray song stick in my head again!!
They were completely shitting on the Patriots when I was listening this morning. Defense won't be good, offense won't be good enough, everyone sucks, etc. Might as well not even play the season I guess.Omg this morning Fred just said he would take any other coach in the AFC East besides Belichick. He prefaced it with a bunch of qualifiers but still come on.
Fred has an absolute disdain for BB and it’s really gotten to the point where it’s not only jarring to listen to but it’s legit turn off the radio for me.This is my favorite show to listen to but when I hear him recite the exact same talking points that you hear from Felger it’s go away heat. They were completely shitting on the Patriots when I was listening this morning. I think part of it is that he hates Patricia SO much from Lions tenure that he can’t tolerate B giving him another leadership role.Fred has an absolute disdain for BB and it’s really gotten to the point where it’s not only jarring to listen to but it’s legit turn off the radio for me.This is my favorite show to listen to but when I hear him recite the exact same talking points that you hear from Felger it’s go away heat.
I think that’s totally reasonable. How many years does BB have left? If you’re starting a team you want a youngish guy there for the longer haul.To be fair he said if he was starting a team today, he wouldn't take BB because of the concerns of him as the GM and the fact that he's 70. He said the Patriots shouldn't fire BB, but if he became an owner today, he wouldn't go hire BB over the others.
It's still a hot take but not scorching hot.
He'll apparently be at a Framingham dispensary today as they debut it for sale.Ricky Williams on now promoting his new strain of weed.
Yes that was awesome. You can tell how much better it is having people in person. The interview with Ricky Williams was fannnnntastic.
