I loved the Tanguay/Gibson game.

I think they bits they do involving Tanguay are always good. He's a good asset to the show, providing I don't have to hear him for 4 hours after T+R sign off.

And yeah, Wallach needs to shut it. Today with the Playboy model, his mic should've been shut off. He adds nothing to the program.

I'm glad I missed that part. Wallach is so brutal on this show. This morning I flipped on the radio while Rich was in the other room editing something. Fred and Wallach were the only two talking, and it was torture listening to Wallach. He never shuts up.

I love Wallach. I don't get the hate on him. He just seems like a nice, aloof dude.

I think Wallach is a good foil for th show, and has the sports knowledge to help supplement certain segments and interviews. The problem I have with him is that he often acts like its the "Toucher and Rich and Wallach" show, and it most definitely is not. He needs to stop contributing during non-sports/update segments unless and until T&R draw him in. His constant input often slows the show down because he doesn't have any comedic talent at all. I don't hate him, but I think the frustration here (or at least for me) is that he gets in the way of Fred and Rich way too much.

That story was from like 2 months ago. Crash has been in Atlanta again for a while.

yeah so it is. I think they played a Crash drop on the show yesterday ("I really wish I was gay!") and it crossed my mind to see if there was any news about him.

What was Fred going on about this morning around 720-730? He kept mentioning how he wanted to go to all the PR events now that something happened and that he was now going to try to get Lenny Clarke on his show all the time. Something with Ordway?

I read it more as knocking on Greg Hill, the way they mentioned "someone" wouldn't sit at their table at some recent event, yet talked about how other people from other stations were pretty nice to them (specifically mentioning LB and Spaz). Lenny Clark is also a regular guest on the Hill-man Morning Show.

That Hillman/T+R story from a few years ago pretty much solidified him as an enormous douche. Basically he refused to sit at his assigned seat and put up a big stink at some fundraiser/banquet because T+R were sitting there too and had poked fun at him on air a couple times. Needless to say, after that, they got a lot more vicious than just poking fun.

Around 8:20 this morning, they were calling Brett Favre a "magician" and pretending that he went around the Viking locker room performing tricks (I mean illusions).

Anyway, for some reason that completely cracked me up. Especially when they said, "Come here, give that ol' link rings to Brett. Alakazzam!"

I heard that, too. Very funny.

A few minutes later they interviewed Burt Breer. Did you hear Fred scream at him "LET! ME! FINISH! BURT!" Hilarious.

This morning had to be the first time i've ever felt I was being trolled as a listener by T+R. The entire discussion about Rex Ryan seemed designed to simply provoke patriots listeners, and hearing them whine about how nothing interesting ever comes out of the Pats felt forced. These guys aren't traditional media and they're not expecting or relying on sound bites from players to make their show. If anything, they're more setup than any other media in this town to deal with boring pats quotes as their show has made quite a bit out of ripping quotes out of context for laughs. It had to be the first time in months I spent a prolonged period listening to D+C, and I'm not even a huge Patriots fan who just couldn't handle their hot sports takes. It's just not interesting to talk about how Pats fans should like Rex Ryan.

Thankfully, I missed this on my commute, and was on for a very enjoyable run of "This Guy", the Jon Gruden game. And let me tell you, I can feel the power of this guy in the hole.

In fairness, it beats the political crap. This is a tough period for sportstalk radio. Interest in the Sox is as low as it's been since probably pre-2003, the Pats are still in pre-season and the Celts/Bruins are a ways off from playing. The replay of "Ask a Pink Hat" was a roar. My sales rep at the Sports Hub did tell me that Adolpho is not an act--he is very strange.

Dan Roche is light years ahead of Wallach on this show. Fred clearly respects him and his insight much more than Wallach. Hopefully Wallach has pink eye forever.

Dan Roche has been a lifesaver, and as a result my head hasn't exploded. The chemistry between him and Fred is great, as Fred even admitted to this morning. Very enjoyable radio.

Sometime I wonder how on the level these interviews are.
Yeah, I do too. Then I go to Fenway Park again and immediately retract that thought.

We're down 6 in the 8th to a team we should be beating, that we need to beat to gain ground in the wild car race... SO GOOD SO GOOD SO GOOD

Ugh.

Piggybacking off Mikeford's thoughts, I was at Saturday night's game. Seated in the same row with my kid and me was a bachelorette party who somehow alway decided they needed refills in the bottom of an inning. By the bottom of the fifth, with Scutaro and Hall on base, and Papi at bat, two of them got up for another round.

I have no doubt these chicks would have fit right into an "ask a pink hat" segment.

Bugged the hell out of me this morning -they said as the "flagship station" they got exclusive rights to talk with Jonathan Kraft yesterday and Tanguay and Gresh were "good enough" to bring up Mankins- all they alluded to was that Mankins called Robert Kraft and did apologize, but they NEVER dug any further - didn't go into the discrepancies between Kraft/Schefter and had to go to EEI to see it all sorted out...

I mentioned in the Gresh thread that the 25-54 numbers were released for August last night. Toucher and Rich destroyed Dennis and Callahan (Felger and Mazz also beat the Big Show in the same bracket). They were both crowing about the numbers and were ragging on Callahan wondering if he was still "hiding under his desk quivering". They also said that they heard through the grapevine that EEI is going to start breaking out "new surprises" and Toucher (I think, I still can't tell their voices apart) went off on a rant about how Chuckles McGee is going to come over from the Ha Ha Hut and sit in with D&C and break down the day's top stories.

"What a nimrod!"

The funniest part is that Wallach was absolutely dying in the background. He couldn't stop laughing. It was really funny. Then they said that EEI is now doing street interviews ala Adolpho.

Sounds as if a certain station is getting nervous.

They probably should be. I know that the 'flagship station' stuff is kind of lame, but the average sports listener is probably more likely to listen to the station that carries the teams games. Considering the August numbers are still based heavily on baseball listeners, now that football and hockey is starting to come around that is likely to drive more people to TSH. (I know people are going to debate me on this, but TSH knows this as well - that's why they've been declaring baseball 'dead' station-wide for the last couple weeks).

EEI needs to do something to get attention, but its gonna have to be something other than comedians and street interviews. I don't think being TSH-redux will endear people back to them.

Red carpet Adolpho was hilarious this morning. He mispronounced Jon Hamm's name twice when interviewing him and went all fanboy on Jeremy Renner about being in the Avengers.

Don't you mean Jeremy RennerD?

They were awesome by virtue of being absolutely cringe worthy and uncomfortable. I wasn't even there and I was squirming in my car seat driving to work.

Uh Oh ... maybe it was just bad timing this morning but I think the good ratings maybe impacting the listening experience. Way too many commercials this morning. Ouch! I barely heard the guys on my ride in.

Tremendous bit this morning by Rich doctoring Wallach's appearance on NESN last night. It occurred around 8:45 if you want to listen on the podcast.

I used to think that the complaining about Wallach was an exaggeration around these parts, but he is terrible. He has no feel for the show's flow and just butts in and says something completely off-center. Then he tries cover up by being funny and he fails miserably.

I've come around to the Wallach is terrible way of thinking.

The Gruden game this morning pretty much summed up Wallach's role on the show. Fred's in the middle of a funny Gruden impression talking about Devin Hester and Wallach has to chime in on how Hester returned a punt for a TD right after Tirico said he wasn't the same returner he once was. Fred immediately told him to shut up and that he was killing the comedy. That could be the title of Wallach's entire run on the show.

piecing together the post above and twitter...i take it that "that question" is about Lebron's mom, what did Delonte say to that? Anyone else i'd expect a strict "no comment", but Delonte might have started talking about unicorns or something

First of all, halfway through the question, Delonte's handler started flipping and telling Delonte not to answer, that questions were supposed to be "basketball only." To Rich's credit, he pushed through and finished the question; to Delonte's, he didn't drop a no-comment. Instead he took a second and then started in some vague direction about where he was from, you never talk about somebody's parents. He ended it with something like "No, never" which T&R agreed was a denial.

It's too bad Delonte had a handler. If not, he would have: a. killed Rich, b. joked about it, or c. thoughtfully answered in a run-on sentence. It would have been fun. Did anyone ever ask McLaren about that rumor in the Bruins locker room?
