RIP Toucher and Rich Show ... It was fun while it lasted

T&R laid out everything, D&C were the ones cherry picking the older demographics. And T&R said even in those demos they were beat by a fraction of a point (which could have been different if they didn't take so much time off).

I think it boils down to this: One station has been scrambling and making huge changes (that have made them worse), one hasn't. Who is the one concerned?

We need someone with actual access to start posting here. I checked online, and all you can get is the top level summary per station, 6am-midnight

Are they again including Providence in there?
This probably makes the most sense. D&C could possibly argue they have a higher quantity of listeners while T&R can argue they have the greater % of listeners in the region both stations cover.

It will be interesting to see if Finn or someone else can sort this out.

I didn't know D&C ripped into Chad Finn.
Why wouldn't they?

They are framing the argument that they are "kicking T&R's asses", and by taking a pre-emptive shot at Finn and Heslam, when they break it down more to show that D&C really aren't doing well at all, D&C can come back and say "we don't care about those biased jackoffs. We told you they were biased!"

Thanks to ALL of you D&C are again #1 with men age 25-54, 35-44, 35-49, 35-54
So T&R are up 33% over them in 18-49 and 8x ahead of them in 18-34. Without doing the math, it looks like D&C are dominating the 40+ segment while T&R are pulling almost everything under that.

Not sure what to make out the March #'s Rich was referencing. T&R did take half the winter off (so it seems) I know I didn't listen as much during that time.

Good stuff. Rich today said that they weren't allowed to disclose the exact numbers, is there a reason for this?

I'm assuming if anything its because its information they pay for?

I know you can't answer this Chad, but Gerry Callahan is probably the biggest prick in the Boston sports media, right?

He has to be.

You know, I've never actually met him. And I've had people I respect tell me that he's a likable guy playing an exaggerated character on the radio, and I've had people say he's a raging jerk. I'll say this: The show is better when his partner is off "ice fishing" and Dale (or Felger back in the day) fills in. John brings out the worst aspects of Gerry.

As for the ratings, yes, D&C beat Toucher and Rich in the winter book among men 25-54 (the only one that really matters), with a 7.7 share to a 7.4. They were 1-2 (or tied for second) in the market. T&R destroyed them in the younger demos -- what Rich tweeted was true -- and D&C won the older demos convincingly. No surprises there.

One other interesting thing while I think of it. "The Big Show With Glenn, Michael and Shecky" edged "Felger and Mazz" in the winter book, but "Felger and Mazz" beat them in March. The perception of that at 98.5 is that people checked out the new lineup over there out of curiosity but didn't stay.

Any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them here or in my chat at Boston.com at noon.

Chad, is there anything that T+R said that they actually lied about? It seems like both sides were caught in semantics about which demos they were actually reporting on, yet one side got extremely condescending and asshole-ish about it all. Can't they just admit they appeal to different demos (one old, one young, all male) and just go on their way?

Also, as far as Callahan goes, I've heard that he's actually a decent guy in person and nothing like his on air personality. Unfortunately, the opposite can be said about Dennis, I've heard he's just an enormous jerk (and not just in size). I think Callahan actually would be tolerable with a competent co-host who could keep him honest on his rantings. Then again, I haven't listened to D+C in years so I may not be the best source.

Thanks for checking in with the info.

Everything they Tweeted was true, and they admitted upfront on the air that D&C beat them in 25-54. I don't know why D&C take the slash-and-burn approach when they're not taking turns patting each other on the back. I mean, they did beat them, but you'd think it was by a 10 share the way they were gloating about it. Strikes me as terribly insecure.

From an analytical perspective, D&C are really EEI's least problem. We may dislike (and in many cases abhor) the show. We may feel that T&R is far more entertaining and it's not even close. But the fact is, and the ratings back this up...the older demos still tune into D&C in drones.

Both shows appeal to different audiences, and will win different demos. The most important demographic, 18-54, will always be a dogfight as it was over the winter (7.7-7.4 as Chad mentioned).

But there's no reason for Dennis and Callahan to act like such douches. I mean, who the hell even spends the first 20 minutes of their talking about ratings and making inside jokes about sports media writers? Booooooring....and narcissistic.

How do the online listeners factor into the ratings? You would think 98.5's audience would have a huge amount of online streaming listeners compared to WEEI.

Ok, the promo Rich just put together mocking The Fast and the Furious franchise was fantastic.

#6 - The Fast and the Bi-curious - starring John Gruden
#7 - The Faster Guy is Furious - self explanatory
#8 - The Fast and the Furry-ess - furry joke
#9 - The Fat and the Furious - "Hello. John Dennis calling."

Put it all into a movie promo with sound effects and the deep narrator voice, and it is fantastic.

Which one of you curmudgeons just called up T+R to tell them that Fred calling his wife was "hack radio"?

It started pretty funny but ended up a bit hard to listen to, but hearing the call I couldn't help but think it had to be someone from here or BMSW

I was going around a long on-ramp and almost drove off the road during that. The John Dennis thing almost killed me.

Here's what I don't get about the demo numbers. If they are so popular with the young people, why in fuck's name do I have to be bombarded with annoying Dragon naturally speaking shit commercials? God I hate those things.

I think the Dragon commercials have been surpassed by the foolish "SPORTS SHOUTING DOT COM!!!!" crap. I will be a happy camper when that site goes out of business.

Seriously though. What advertising company says "I got it, we will promote your product by being really annoying! Get it! People are annoyed that they have to type! So they can be annoyed listening to our crap commercial full of stuttered speech and keystroke noises and say "WOW I hate that I think I will buy it." This would work better if buying the product would make the commercial go away.

Meanwhile, kind of a boring show today. I am very disappointed in Bruins fans this year. No hearkening back to Run DMC for a Tim Thomas song? No porn on the top shelf? Just boring drunkenness. Although the "MVP" was a good clip for later re-use.

Heard an ad yesterday that started with the line "ARE YOU TIRED OF SEX PILLS THAT DON'T WORK!??!?!"

It's getting to be like the audio version of the classifieds in the Phoenix.

Fred's rant on the Man-Baby from Taboo being on Welfare today was awesome. "I'm ok with him dying, why don't you have a job? Ohh cause you're acting like a toddler. YOu built a crib for your 300lb body, you have obvious skills in the trade, why are you unemployed? Because you want to be a baby!"

Has anyone else had issues with the online streaming the last few days? It will work intermittently for me and then stop and I can't figure out why. I've tried it through their website and through iTunes and it's still only working like half the time.

Yeah, itunes streaming crapped out on me this AM too. Unfortunately, I've switched back to an actual radio for now.

BTW, can someone explain to me why there is no Naughty Mazz Mother's Day edition? :( The milf jokes would practically write themselves...

I always chalk up streaming problems to my AT&T reception - but if it's happening through iTunes too I'm not sure what the issue is.

Oops, gotta go write down this phone number - boy am I sick of used catheters!
