I completely agree with the access thing and I was going to put something in my original answer about it. But, at some point a reporter should worry about what the listener/viewer is getting out of the appearance. The EEI interviews are fucking boring as shit, Belichick doesn't say anything, Brady sounds like he's asleep, Tito doesn't reveal anything. At some point you have to determine whether going through the motions is even worth it.
I know that you have sponsors to deal with and their dicks get wet when they can say that they promote the Subway Tom Brady Dunkin Donuts Honey Dew Question of the McDonald's Morning! And I understand that sponsorships and ad revenues are what makes the make the shows go 'round, but there is never any insight gleaned from any of these conversations.
"So Tom, three busted ribs yesterday, how do you feel?"
"Great, John! Never better."
"Good. So what do you think of the Ravens?"
"Really good team, Gerry!"
"Awesome! See you next week!"
Today was different since Epstein is rarely ever on the station and he was promoting a charity. I guess T&R thought that they could go a bit farther.
Let me clarify. Personally I wasn't interested in Theo's take on the HOF so I thought it went on too long. The interview style on the other hand was effective because they seemed to "connect" with Theo. Later in the interview, Theo acknowledged that by saying I know it seems like a boring interview if I keep saying "I don't want to comment about stuff". So in that sense, the interview was a good one.
