I just went poking around and it seems like pretty much everybody outside of this board thinks White is a lock. That includes the recent stuff, although there was definitely more written a month ago and it's been noted he hasn't shown much in the preseason games.

He also had 2 receptions for 32 yards last game which isn't nothing.

White is a lock because there isn't another RB on the roster with a contract that goes past this season. Ridley, Vereen, Bolden, Gray, Finch and anyone else has one year remaining. White has four.

Ergo, White makes the team unless he kills someone.

Might want to consider giving Vereen a new deal. I think he's going to be a huge part of the offense this year

Given the events of the last few years, that last line takes on a more literal meaning than before.

I'd like to be sure he isn't made out of glass first. I love the talent. The injuries have been, largely, freaky and not systemic. But he might just be a guy to whom injuries happen at an increased rate for whatever reason.
