It's so sad when adults are illiterate.

I choked on my tea a little bit when I read (and re-read) the last word.  Then I looked at the username.

Always nice to have you around, Berry.

Vince is handling this with more intellectual and emotional intelligence than 99% of athletes near the end of the line.

Would you care to revisit Brett Favre's end days? Troy Aikman's?

Or currently the other Troy's? They are fucking begging him to retire in Pittsburgh.

All class all the time.

I do not imagine him playing for another team unless somebody vastly overpays him, if, as reported, the Pats are willing to have him back at a reduced contract.

It is useful to underscore this, as this particular troll has had no difficulty painting himself as a victim, and occasionally in the past getting moderator sympathy when doing so.

It was a gratuitously cruel remark that served no useful purpose in this thread.

So all of SoSH is laughing at SeanBerry right now?

It was mentioned by someone upthread spread but if this allows them to keep Revis then it's a no-brainer. If it helped them keep Revis AND DMC then it would be whatever comes after no-brainer on the DUH scale.

Oh please stop.

This letter was very badly written. This man went to college. It had nice thoughts in it and he won 2 Super Bowl rings with the Pats. But it would get a failing grade in a 6th grade classroom.

I am honestly stunned not one person here mentioned this. Can you imagine the reaction here if another player on another team wrote a letter like this? People went apeshit just because the Cavs owner used a silly font. Look at the layout on the letter. It's supposed to fit on that sheet of paper on that fake pad yet it bleeds over? It's hilarious.

I know most of you are Pats fans and I totally expect you to love Wilfork but I think if a Red Sox player wrote a letter like this, you'd get some lighthearted jokes about it. With the Pats, no one even mentions it.

As far as him having "more intellectual intelligence than 99% of athletes at the end of the line", do you really believe that? What must those other farewell letters look like? Just random shapes and symbols?

1. Time and place for everything. Today and here didn't fit.

2. Yes, I totally believe that. If the letter is to be taken at face value -- and you insist on taking it quite literally -- he has apparently surmounted a hurdle a good many other stars never get over. Accepting the end with grace. Favre provided the sad example in that respect.

The others look like they were written by Don Draper.

Those (apparently such as yourself) who believe that being articulate or writing with perfect spelling and grammar are proxies for intelligence are the hilarious ones.  They don't realize it, though.

Perfection? Pretty safe to say he missed that mark by quite a bit.

Good Christ. Some of you people take this far too seriously. If I took being a Jets fan this seriously, I would have been found hanging in a closet during the Kotite era.

Relax a little bit. You just won a Super Bowl. This letter is incredibly silly. You can laugh about it, point to him as one of your guys and enjoy the rings.

This fan base is going to be intolerable when this run ends if you take anyone making fun of this as being "cruel".

Wilfork would definitely get the award for "Student who didn't get any help from his parents (agent)" on this one.

It's ok---some of us recognize you're tremendously jealous of the Pats and still embarrassed about the butt fumble.   We understand you can't get past those things.  It doesn't make you a bad person...

Jealous? Before the Red Sox won in 2004, were you jealous of the Yankees rings?
Embarrassed? Were you still embarrassed in 1988 about Buckner's error?

I'm also guessing if Paul O'Neill wrote a similar letter in 2001, you would have had quite the chuckle.

Split out. If SeanBerry's appalled at Wilfork's email, he'll have a coronary with Jamie Collin's tweet:

I think he most likely typed it on his phone and it applies the background image in an off-center, hokey fashion intentionally. The man probably hasn't taken an English class since 8th grade.

I'm with you, though. It's pretty hilarious; especially coupled with the seeming contempt around here at you for making a joke. Imagine what this place would say if Terrell Suggs wrote the same letter.

I'm pretty sure I could write a better farewell letter, but I never got to play in the NFL for a decade and make tens of millions of dollars, so I'll just have to assume and smile to myself.

Since the last Jet with a SB ring who left the team was in the 70's, I can see why the significance of the thread befuddles SB.

You made this a thread? A great honor for a troll... Don't waste bandwidth or time responding to trolls. The ignore button is your friend. I realize there is a certain irony in posting that and the likelihood of people actually ignoring trolls is slim but whatever.

It's a farewell letter. Too many shits have been given.

This used to be a cool place to talk about football. But that was back when P&G was funny. What the fuck happened?

Split out to P&G so we can discuss these importance issues of the relative merits of trolling a troll thread and the decline of P&G from it's glory days of funny.

Seconded. Comments like "THIS ISNT THE TIME OR PLACE!!!1!!1" are ridiculous. Wilfork isn't dead. This is why Drew Magary is merciless on Patriots fans.

Grow a thicker skin, people.
This made me laugh out loud.  Thank you for providing some measure of comfort on this sad, sad day.  NEVER FORGET!

In all seriousness, I'll miss watching Vince and appreciate all he did for the Pats.  Seems like a damn good dude and not having to worry about the middle of your defensive line for a decade is quite a luxury.
