Moving the Line
Never before has there been an MLB day since 1901 to have 2 teams winning by 19+. Previous record was 17, most recently on May 20th, 1994: Mariners 19, Rangers 2; Twins 21, Red Sox 2.

As did Wes Littleton in the 30-3 game 13 years ago. I only remember this because it’s amusing, and that Littleton has one of my favorite, whackiest deliveries of all time.

As an addendum, Elias found the last date with score margins this big by multiple teams: July 4, 1884, with both ending 22-3. Also the exact day the US got presented the Statue of Liberty in Paris.

Workman blew a 3-run lead (bases were loaded when he came in, but still) and got the loss later, as the Phillies & Marlins start a 7-game, 5-day series.

thanks again for a decent prospect and a SP reclamation project, Phils.

Michael Fulmer's return from Tommy John surgery has not gone well. After 8 starts, in which he's been limited to 45-65 pitches, his ERA sits at 9.27.

Kolarek comes in (6-5 astros already) gets a ground ball and they catch Springer in a rundown between 3rd and home and almost a double play at 3rd. One out.

since I pointed out the Yanks were pretty damn close to the O's and Tigers, they've snapped out of it while the O's & Tigers have solidified losing seasons. Oh well.

Marlins bounces back nicely after the 29-9 drubbing to the Braves. About to go up 4-2 in the first of my lifetime 7 game regular season weekend series against the Phils.

Marlins would make the playoffs if the season ended today. 16 games remaining over the last 14 days. Almost all caught up on their schedule.

Byron Buxton has homered twelve times since the last time he walked (he has one walk this season).

If Buxton can hit another sac fly or two without drawing another walk, he could break Ernie Bowman's record for most at-bats in a completed season with an OBP lower than his BA. Bowman put up a .184/.181 line in 125 AB in 1963. Buxton is currently at .270/.272 in 111 AB.

I didn't even realize it had happened as I watched it, but Zach Plesac just pitched an immaculate inning against the Tigers (9 pitches = 3 Ks).

It will be a long road back for Verlander, who wouldn't be able to pitch again until 2022 and who will be a FA after 2021 (HOU will be eating his $33M deal next year, couldn't happen to a nicer owner).

He had food poisoning and was already retiring at the end of the season, so since he was going to have to miss time anyway, he called it early. Doesn't sound good, agreed, but that is the explanation given.
