When will Cleveland finally release Bryan Shaw? They asked him to get 3 outs with a six run lead and still needed Clase to come in to get the save. They keep shrinking Shaw's role, but he's simply unusable.

696 for Pujols.
Against a righty too! Fifth of the year.

What a year. Maybe worth its own thread but does he belong in the same conversation as Mays and Aaron? Probably not quite but the thing that amazes me about the righties is how relatively few chances they get with the platoon advantage. Just 23 percent for Pujols. (70 and 67 percent for Ruth and Bonds.)

And don’t forget it’s generally assumed he is 3 years older than listed, which would mean he is actually almost 46 (!!!!).

It’s hard to hold off a team that is on a run of 23-5. The Braves have a stacked lineup that wouldn’t look out of place in a much higher scoring era.
To go even further - the Braves were below 500 on June 1 (24-27), and then 63-25 since (0.716, or 116 win pace)

Whereas the Mets were at 35-17 (0.673) on June 1, and since then have been 53-35 (0.602, which would still be the 3rd best record in the NL this year)

The story should be more how did this good of a Braves team play like crap for 2 months; the Mets aren't the issue

They brought Michael Harris up May 28, they are 65-26 in games he has started.

While the Mets are not the issue overall when discussing the NL East race, their offense turtles way too often. They might get away with it in the playoffs with Scherzer (if healthy) / deGrom starting over half their games, but it's an issue.

Michael Harris II is up to a 909 OPS after 2 late HR today. Absurd how the Braves seem to have all the goods, and both he & Grissom skipped AAA.

EDIT: And now the Braves complete an equally absurd comeback, with Rosario & Grossman (low OPS guys) getting hits down to the last out

JRod a 117mph rocket on a washed up Kenley curve. Everyone's watching football but this has turned into a standout game.

Cleveland and Minnesota play 5 more next week, so anything is possible, but I think the Twins are done.

I heard a lot of excuses that they're without Buxton and Polanco, but (1) that's part of the deal with Buxton ‐- you can't count on him ever being healthy -- and (2) it doesn't explain why their pitching is so bad. In what was their biggest series to this point of the season they used 3 starters I wouldn't want on my team and next week they'll need 5 starters in their last chance to make the post season... and their bullpen is worse.

I think the first team to 82 wins takes the AL Central... and I'll be surprised if the Twins get there at all.

Also the Twins just had a horrible deadline trying to reinforce the pitching. Mahle wasn't good and is injured, Lopez has pumpkined back to a normal pitcher. Twins look 95+% done to me too.

Someone help me out here: why is there a double-header tomorrow between Toronto and Tampa, two teams who play in domes? Was it scheduled this way? Apparently there was one between them earlier this year, too.

Because the first week of games this season were cancelled because of the lockout and then had to be slotted in later.

One strike away from the end of the game and Kulpa takes a foul ball directly to the mask and leaves the game.

Framber with his first career CGSO on the night he ties the single season consecutive quality start record. Just awesome.

The Guardians win their 6th straight in come-from-behind style on a Jose Ramirez home run. The White Sox get shut out by the Rockies. The lead is now 4 games with Cleveland at a season-high 11 games over .500. The next 9 days look like this:

9/15 vs. White Sox
9/16 vs. Twins
9/17 vs. Twins x2
9/18 vs. Twins
9/19 vs. Twins
9/20 @ White Sox
9/21 @ White Sox
9/22 @ White Sox

If they keep winning, they can start preparing for the playoffs by next weekend. If they go into a slump, it could still be a 3-team dog fight to the wire. It's going to test the depth of their pitching, but with the return of Karinchak and Nick Sandlin rediscovering the strike zone after a trip to the minors, they've had the league's best bullpen in the second half – pretty much everyone not named Bryan Shaw has been really good. Aaron Civale is also expected to return from the IL in time for the Chicago trip. There's no target date for Zach Plesac's return yet, even though it was originally said he would be back after missing one start… he can go pound dirt for all I care.

Cleveland's schedule is fairly light after that though and the Twins still have 6 to play the White Sox and the White Sox have to play SD too. I think if you are Min or CWS you are thinking sweep or bust to even get in the conversation.

After Tampa won the first game of the series vs NY last Friday, they were two back in the loss column for the division.

They’ve now dropped 5 of their last 6 games.

I think it does that a lot with images now, not sure how it chooses.
