Josh Donaldson is playing for the Brewers now. He homered last night, giving him 11 HRs this season and a whopping 17 RBIs. That is hard to do.

The Orioles losing a series to the Cardinals (1-0 Cards in the 9th right now) is the type of thing that would make the AL East at actual risk.

Orioles 91-54 if they lose this
Rays 90-57

Rays are coming into Baltimore for 4 starting tomorrow. It's also been surprising how the Rays haven't missed Franco yet.

O’s lose a 1 run game finally! Rays 2 back headed into a 4 game series in BAL.

I wouldn’t say they haven’t missed Franco. They got a hot streak from Basabe at the beginning but it’s definitely created a big hole. Losing Siri isn’t great, either. The bullpen has been much, much better the last few weeks, though. Very impressive how they’ve rallied after the Franco bomb dropped.

Rays 4 - O’s 3. Lead down to 1 game.

Big weekend in Baltimore!
Winning run came on a very familiar story: 3-2 pitch with two out was called a ball (could have gone either way). Brandish was bothered by the call, grooved the next pitch and Riley hit it out to center.

Seattle still has 7 games left with Texas AND a series with Houston. I'd say that would be good news for Toronto except they have 6 left with Tampa.

Marlins, Reds and D-backs all 77-72 for that final WC spot, could be a really fun race down the stretch.

Cubs are also only 78-70...

Oh, look, Junior Valentine fucked up and called a foul ball a home run in the D-Backs vs Cubs game. It wasn't even close.

Thank god for replay.

He’s a stud. It was a battle against Rodriguez. Nine pitches but he finally blew him away. Just a terrible job by Bloom and the coaching staff not seeing he still had a lot left in the tank.

Drew Smyly gets out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the 12th for the Cubs, who take the lead in the 13th

The fan base wanted him gone at least a year sooner.

The fan base, myself included, might not have wanted him gone so badly if someone in the Sox organization had said, "Hey, maybe try out a cutter and mix it in with your four seamer and sinker. It'll make you a sub-1.00 ERA pitcher".

I think coaching at the upper levels (both AAA and MLB) is a serious issue in this organization right now.

Dodgers clinch the NL West on the back of a 5 run 11th inning over the Mariners. Mariners had chances to put it away in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. Disappointing.

Since August 28 the Astros have:
Swept the Red Sox, two blowouts, one three run game
Been swept by the Yankees
Swept the Rangers, three total ass-kickings
Lost two of three to the A's
In danger of being swept by the Royals
Is there a more unpredictable team in baseball?

Would be just the 2nd season with 11+ HR, and an RBI:HR ratio less than or equal to 1.6364:1 (dividing the now 18 RBI by 11 HR ). The other, Wayne Gross for the 1985 Orioles, put up these exact numbers, of 11 HR, 18 RBI.

The Orioles let Yennier Cano bat, down a run, in the 10th inning (obvious K), which I think has to be a stupid move analytically. But, he pitched a scoreless 11th so I guess it officially worked out.

EDIT: Never mind, DL Hall came on for the 11th. I don't understand at all then what happened there.

Box score says they pinch hit for Cano
