Arizona up 3-1 on the Cubs, trying to take the 2nd WC spot back from Miami, and pull to within 2.5 of the 2nd WC.

This NL race is going to be just awesome this year.

Only the Angels... reigning AL Player of the Week Luis Rengifo just injured his arm taking a practice swing in the on-deck circle in the first inning. The Angels also named 3 different starting pitchers for tonight's game due to injury and probably late matchup decisions.

Helluva pitchers duel between the Cubs and Dbacks. 2 hits a piece going into the 8th. Gallen is still in at just 82 pitches after a couple rough starts.

Mariners' bullpen picked a real bad time to start falling apart, they've lost two in a row to Tampa now while the Blue Jays and Rangers are playing weaker competition (although Texas lost to Oakland last night).

So what would the terms have to be to make a Trout trade worth it for BOS? Have him split time between LF and DH, get that AAV below $25m/year, and offer ________?

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38369441/report-angels-open-trading-mike-trout-wants-out
Is the thinking behind moving him to LF/DH that his defense is deteriorating as he ages? Because I think he'd be a better fit in the short term playing CF or RF. Worth pointing out that none of his injuries over the years have happened in the outfield. They've all been at the plate or running the bases. DHing wouldn't necessarily keep him healthier.

That said, I'm guessing the prospect/talent cost to entice the Angels to eat enough salary is going to set back the pipeline/window a bit. I'm not keen to see the Sox become Angels east.

He was definitely having trouble with the mound. He fell down twice.

First time in this run that he looked like got rattled.
Yeah it was weird. Nobody else seemed to have any trouble with the mound. Neither did he until the 6th. Then suddenly he caught a spike and fell while throwing = wild pitch #1, very next pitch no apparent mound issues but he still airmailed a fastball over the catcher for wild pitch #2, and the very next pitch he seemed to catch a spike again and airmailed yet another pitch over the catcher.

And they traded Sewald to the D-Backs at the deadline. This move I fail to understand, then and now.

Atlanta is just so good. Harper hits a 2 out, 2 run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. No problem. Braves immediately take the lead again on the first pitch in the 10th, add an insurance run, and close it out.

IIRC, MLB wanted to revert the zombie runner rule, but the players liked having shorter games and put it back in.

It's not going away. There's only been a couple of games past 13 innings since the rule came into place - to that end of stopping 5+ hour games, it works.

The only adjustment I'd make is starting him. at 1B. Brings in the steal, bunt, hit and run, etc

The pitch clock stuff arguably does more for that.

I'd love to see a study of how many games typically went beyond 11 innings before the rule and how many do now. Because I'm guessing the ratios might be fairly close.

His whole time as a prospect I never saw any mention that was his mom, that's wild.

Just as wild: his dad is Ted the human bomb from Heroes.

The Mariners just blew a golden chance to win -- bases loaded, no outs in a 3-3 tie. Couldn't get the win across

Scherzer left with an injury, Seattle is struggling, Verlander got knocked around again, Toronto about to drop two straight to Texas at home.

Nobody in the West or final Wild Card spots are stepping up or playing well.

Trea Turner with a lead off solo shot to tie it 6-6 in the 9th. Phillies looking to come all the way back from 6-1 down.
