No chance he opts out after year 6. Absolutely no chance. 7/218?? I guess in 6 years, $31mm per year for a player may not seem as outrageous as it does now, but I cannot believe that he won't opt out.
Will also be interesting to see, if the Marlins don't make the PS during those 6 years, does he forgo the 7/218mm he's got left, sign maybe an 8/200 or 8/225 deal, and go to a winning team? Takes a bit less money in AAV (and maybe overall) for a better chance to win.
I don't see the Marlins ever spending enough to merit a $31mm obligation to any player for 7 straight years.
