He's opting out.Follow up. Sounds like Powell can opt out of his contract this summer so he could potentially be a FA this summer instead of next.

Yup, sounds like it so Danny probably passes unless he thinks he can sign him to a deal. Chances are he's a pure rental though. Real solid player who's really emerged this year. He's opting out.
Yes. There is as close to 100% certainty of this as it gets. He's opting out.
I don’t think this is true. I don’t think they offered him anything competitive, which left the door just as wide as the Horford one. I try to follow the rumors maybe I missed. They tried, he wasn't interested in being the fourth banana.
You don't need to follow rumors, just listen to what Hayward says, he's talked about it a few times since he left:I don’t think this is true. I don’t think they offered him anything competitive, which left the door just as wide as the Horford one. I try to follow the rumors maybe I missed.
https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-celtics/2021/03/14/gordon-hayward-leave-celtics-hornets“When I signed, I envisioned going somewhere where I’d have more responsibility and could maximize who I am as a basketball player—or at least, have an opportunity to maximize who I am,” Hayward wrote. “I have that here. I have the ball in my hands more and I have more responsibility. That’s what I wanted."
Nah, this was JayCrews team. Kemba needs shots or else he is completely worthless. Smart likes his shots in big spots and Hayward's passiveness would leave him the 4th or 5th option. Gordon didn't want that.I don’t think this is true. I don’t think they offered him anything competitive, which left the door just as wide as the Horford one. Fwiw, I think they’ve been pretty much 100% consistent about their luxury tax plans. Ainge always says these owners will spend money for a winning team if you give them a reason to do it. This isn’t that. Obviously situations could change.
"We believe in our guys.""Passive Danny" is shots fired.

From@GwashburnGlobe | Today’s a day where Danny Ainge must act to better Celtics
Big risk of just running it back with another middling draft pick and whatever can be scrounged up with the TPE (a generally overrated asset) and all the spare parts on the roster. Simple improvement from young guys isn’t enough, as the performance of the team is proving. Not that Aaron Gordon or Harrison Barnes or whoever else is some kind of savior, because they aren’t, but I swear to god if we get a “we believe in our guys” or “we were close on a lot of things” quote tomorrow afternoon I’m going to lose it.
Are you suggesting adding another No. 14 pick won't fast-forward the C's to the NBA Finals?Big risk of just running it back with another middling draft pick and whatever can be scrounged up with the TPE (a generally overrated asset) and all the spare parts on the roster. The only question is which much better player will be selected within one or two picks of the Celtics’ selection. Are you suggesting adding another No. 14 pick won't fast-forward the C's to the NBA Finals?
I laughed. The only question is which much better player will be selected within one or two picks of the Celtics’ selection.
