I don't know if this belongs here or in the "Omar is Dead" podcast thread, but the Ringer Channel 33 podcast about Christopher Nolan is rough. I listen to most of the Channel 33 pop culture podcasts and most of the Grantland ones back when, so a bad episode really sticks out. And boy was this bad.
The "Nolan Superfan" for the episode is the 24 year old producer, Tate. I should have stop listening when Channel 33 regular Juliet asked Tate about "The Cider House Rules," and Tate said that he had never seen a Michael Caine movie that wasn't directed by Nolan; that should have been indication of a lack of movie knowledge for someone hosting a movie podcast.
They mentioned Emilia Clarke being in "Terminator: Salvation" and Juliet said (paraphrasing), "(Clarke) has been in more movies than anyone else from 'Game of Thrones.'" What? Even if she is ignoring the huge resumes of all the famous British actors and meant that in the sense of "since the show has aired," Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage have both done more.
Later, when discussing the incredible opening of "The Dark Knight," Tate said that he had never before seen a movie start with a 4-5 minute action sequence before the credits rolled. I am quoting here: "That is the first time I had ever seen like a 4-5 minute packaged intro like that, and then we saw James Bond copy that with, um, what's it called, 'Skyfall.'...Christopher Nolan taught me that school buses and those big time intros are dope." WTF? James Bond movies have been doing that for fifty years! Does he think that Lucas copied the idea for Episode 4 from Abrams in Episode 7? Almost as bad as that mistake is that neither of the other two corrected him.
Finally, Juliet started remembering that there are school buses in "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises" and wondered aloud if Nolan, because of his use of school buses, had some sort of interest in childhood as a theme in film. She said, "'The Cider House Rules' takes place in an orphanage, there's another connection." Connection to what? Nolan didn't direct that movie.
A few more stinkers like that and I'll have to take Channel 33 out of the rotation.
