Yup. Another close one. Was 100% convinced this one was a loss.

Game BallZ!!!!
  • Bolden for picking up the last 1st down
  • Entire D for only giving up 2 FGs the second half.
And a hearty thanks to:
  • Rex for going for FGs
  • Geno for... well, being Geno
Whew.

Amendola.  He got some really tough (and desperately needed) yards after catches.

And the D.  I love this defense - best one in years.

Go f*ck yourself
Do I get credit in fantasy for a blocked FG for that tip?

Chung played a dogshit game. Hopefully just a blip in an otherwise great season from him. Chandler MF Jones needs to learn a move besides speed rushing the outside of the tackle.

Ahhhhhhmendola played about as close to a plus as anyone on offense but he had a drop or two, some good returns, and some bad returns.

Collins had two huge plays, the third down tackle on Powell that held them to a FG and obviously the pick.

Amendola

would have liked to see them get Vereen more involved...

anti game balls to Chung, O-line, Logan Ryan

Here
Hightower with about the biggest play of his career on that sack. I find it strange that Rex ran the ball and threw a swing pass twice inside the 10 on third down and then tried to throw the ball and convert to risk a sack in that situation. The Defense was very good outside of that one drive that started where two guys couldn't bring down Ivory.

Brady was terrible the first two and a half quarters, and pretty good after that. They moved the ball well at the end, and ended the game with a perfect drive. The Jets have two of the best D linemen in the entire league, so you can understand the issues with the line, but there were still too many in the first half. Second half wasn't so bad. Seems like a common theme the past 5-6 weeks or so. Amendola had a very nice game, and LaFell had a couple big plays himself.

Game was never in doubt.

Reads threads backwards
Amendola for kick returns and being a solid possession receiver. Finally!

Collins for INT and sack, for validating my pre-season binky selection.

Jones for being a Geno problem, pressure = assist on Collins INT

Defense. Pats lose this game last year, the year before, and so on. At least one of those FGs would have been a TD.

SSS, but Vereen and Bolden both ran better than we have seen in a long time. Amendola made some big catches and had a few nice returns. Collins continues to make all sorts of plays: 11 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 INT.

Amendola caught most everythimg his way in a game where the Patriots had no time for a deep game. 8 catches on 11 targets, and I believe 7 first downs.

Hightower for the sack and Vince for the fingertip that cost the Jets the go ahead field goal.

Aside from a few breakdowns, especially on the Jets td drive, the defense played pretty well. Not amazing, but pretty well. Considering that Rex probably poured his heart into this game, and the players played their hearts out for him, I'm just pleased they won. His last super bowl. He lost. Good for him, and good for the Pats. Thank God.

Also the Jets secondary for tackling Bolden. He actually looked like he was trying to score there, which would have been exceptionally stupid. Once he got the first down, the Jets needed to let him score.

Maybe if they considered the actual Super Bowl to be "their Super Bowl" once in awhile, they would win a few more games and stop this rinky dink mind game bullshit.

I mean, it's cute that Rex and crew care so damned much about beating the Patriots, but at the end of the day it's almost the exception that proves the rule that Rex doesn't work hard enough to get the team up for games against every other fucking team.

Maybe more knowledgeable posters can chime in. Was the defense really vanilla today? Maybe it was due to a run first mentality, but I didn't see as many exotic looks and movement before the snap.

I am not a more knowledgeable poster. But to me it looked like the D-Line was told to hold their blocks and shut down the running game. This lead to little to no pass rush, which I think was a risk they were willing to take with Geno behind center.

Defense is now at 12 points given up the second halves of the past five games combined. Those are Spygate-like numbers.

I'm really surprised there's not more love for Collins. Guy is developing at like a geometric rate.

I like the adjustment at half time with the offensive line. Definitely better pass protection in the second half with Fleming at guard. Amendola was good, the backs ran hard and LaFell continued to be great. The defense is just so good, thay basically shut down teams in the second half. Jamie Collins makes plays every week. I was surprised that they didn't do better against the Jets offensive line after Mangold went down.

Offensively, it felt like they really missed Edelman.

That's a good defensive line. Scary in the first half, but second half felt like a win all the way.

Chandler Jones with a sack and the hit to force the underthrown ball to Collins.

Hightower with the huge sack to push back the fg try.

Special teams as a whole, except for the hold on the big kickoff return.

Amendola's best game as a patriot?

While true, at least in the first half Brady's performance was mostly attributed to an invisible offensive line.  Seriously, he got sacked 3 times, and hit or hurried several others.  And it wasn't just one player to blame; it was the entire line.  Hopefully, it was just a bad game and not something other coaches can learn from.  It's definitely a concern right now.

Good news is that everything tightened up as the 2nd half progressed.

I didn't see a ton but, from what I saw and through box score analysis, I don't think it tops Week 1 in Buffalo last year. I was very excited for that version.

10 catches for 103 yards is definitely great, and nine first downs, but 8 and 63 ain't bad, and when you tack on the huge return to set up the TD, it's pretty close. Edelman and Blount did all the returning in the Bills game.

Still, that first game is probably tops, agreed.

As pointed in the game thread, Brady missed some pre-snap reads, which lead to a couple of those sacks coming due to the wrong blocking assignments. I was wondering what the fuck was going on myself.

Totally amazing that they make it to the super bowl every year though, no?
I mean, winning the super bowl every year is some pretty high expectations. Jets fans should be thrilled just to be there every year...

Collins, disruptive as usual. The interception was a nice bonus (assist to Jones)
Wilfork, not just for the tipped field goal. The Jets didn't get a lot going on the ground, especially between the tackles. Nice change from the last game.
Amendola, contributing in two phases.

Game Balls to...

Danny Amendola, and even with that said I can't wait for them to cut this guy in the off season. He did a solid job, but I still feel like we really feel the drop off from Julian Edelman.

Jamie Collins - felt again like he was EVERYWHERE.

Brandon Bolden - quite a spark toward the end. Good to see a little explosiveness.

And finally, a game ball to...Alfonzo Dennard for doing a really solid, if unspectacular job in the seconda -- oh wait, that's right, he was a healthy scratch. Again. Inexplicable - not that he's regressed, most patriots CB seem to do that lately. But that he is so so bad in practice that BB doesn't see fit to play him over Captain Bull'seye, Logan Ryan. I'm actually baffled by this. There is NO WAY he is so bad that he's not playing ahead of Ryan and Butler. He was too good too recently. I just don't get it.
