From the Halifax-Portland matchup in the Memorial Cup...
In the actual game, MacKinnon had 3 goals (PP, EV, SH) separated by fewer than 14 minutes of game time. He also had an assist and a +4 rating. That, of course, was against a Winterhawks defensive corps featuring Seth Jones (needs no explanation), Derrick Pouliot (2012 8th overall), Tyler Wotherspoon (2011 2nd rounder, Team Canada WJC), and Troy Rutkowski (Overager, 2010 5th rounder, later signed with Ottawa).
I hope this finally shuts up the people beating the Drouin drum (though they've been quieter lately) to have him go ahead of his far superior teammate in MacKinnon. I wonder if there's any way MacKinnon can play himself back into the #1 overall pick in the Memorial Cup. It seems doubtful (especially with Colorado in possession of #1), but if there's a way to do it, tonight was a pretty good start. Three goals and one assist against a team that allowed just 2.35 goals per regular season game and 1.71 goals per playoff game isn't shabby.
