Strikeforce tonight. Interested to see how King Mo defends his belt. Jorge Gurgel is always exciting.

I'm kinda disappointed in how little discussion UFC 118 has garnered in here. Once again the UFC puts on a stacked card.

Not really. Toney might have lost a lot of weight compared to when he signed the fight contract but that doesn't mean he is anywhere near to being in MMA shape. I seriously have Toney gassing within minutes of the first round. I think Couture tools him and eventually taps him out with an Americana or a Rear Naked Choke.

Rumors are spreading that BJ Penn only trained about 3 days a week for this fight.

If it goes past round 3 again, I think Frankie's superior conditioning takes it. But if it doesn't it's because Frankie got RNC by Penn!

Gabe Ruediger is fighting Joe Lauzon? Is this the first time somebody who got kicked off TUF has come back to compete in the UFC? I didn't think Dana would ever bring him back.

Godzilla has won his last six fights, but Lauzon is going to be pumped to fight in front of his home crowd. This fight is on the freebies, as well as Nik Lentz and Andre Winner.

I didn't see it, but according to Wikipedia Godzilla brought Lauzon a cake at the weigh-ins saying sorry for your loss. I think Lauzon is going to kill him.

Yea, I saw the cake bit. J Lou took it all in stride though. He was laughing right alongside everyone else.

Lauzon looked great.

Davis got outpunched by Diaz which was surprising.

Florian through two isn't looking that great. Maynard is one boring fucking fighter to watch though.

The dudes reaction is the best.

If BJ Penn lands a takedown it's over for Jersey Shore's finest.

I don't see the hype for this sport, unless tonight was about 300% worse than usual.

Welp, Frankie has the first 2 rounds.

SoxScout, try to get a hold of UFC 116. You'll thank me.

BJ needs to swallow his pride and go train with a Greg Jackson Submission fighting caliber team. He basically could and did take Frankie down whenever he wanted to but he didn't do this enough times.

I agree completely on B.J. He needs a new camp to push him. He's only 31 and has always had issues with motivation.

Dana caling out Kenny is a bit unfair. I thought he was as competitive as he could be given his skil set at the time of his fight with Sherk. I think he had a poor game plan against B.J. the first time around. And last night he just became preoccupied with preventing Maynard from laying on him for 3 rounds and rightly so.

Maynard is just brutal to watch. If he beats Edgar, like I think he will, the UFC will have a Lightweight Titleholder who might even have a negative effect on PPV buys.

And on the other end of the spectrum the Diaz boys continue to be some of the most exciting fighters on the planet. Props to Marcus Davis for being game but Nate turned half his face into E.T.s

Props to Joe Lauzon for quickly dispatching Gabe "Cookie-Puss" Ruediger.

a few points here:

- I like Dana but him calling Kenny a choke artist is a huge "what the fuck." Kenny is one of the best well spoken ambassadors of MMA and the UFC and I always enjoy his commentary as an analyst. I don't know why Dana would say something that could potentially piss off such a nice guy but I guess he really does have no filter.

- BJ is so sick at BJJ that if he ever focused on wrestling and takedowns, he would be unstoppable. I've always wondered why great BJJ guys don't do a lot more wrestling since it's so beneficial to their skillset. I mean, without it, you end up like Maia vs Anderson. Sick BJJ but no way to use it since a) you can't get the guy down and b) the guy doesn't want to jump into your guard. I guess it goes back to the whole US versus THEM mentality between grapplers (Judo, BJJ, Wrestling, etc.) and I can't wait until those walls are shattered by someone.

- I've actually become a fan of Gray Maynard. Sure he isn't flashy and doesn't finish fights but he is a beast at 155. He is the strongest LW in the world IMO and he also has heavy hands. When you spend time trying to get someone down to the floor and controlling them you come to appreciate guys that do it so effortlessly at a high level like GSP, Maynard, Sonnen, and Fitch.

Who wants to watch shark fights Saturday night? I have never watched shark fights; I mainly pay attention to UFC and I watched Pride. But this card for Shark Fight 13 looks pretty sweet.

The Main Card (via mmajunkie):
  • Trevor Prangley (202.75) vs. Keith Jardine (204.5)
  • Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou (204.75) vs. Houston Alexander (202.25)
  • Paul Daley (171.75) vs. Jorge Masvidal (168.75)+
  • Danillo Villefort (184.5) vs. Joey Villasanor (185.5)
  • Brock Larson (170.75) vs. Tarec Saffiedine (169.75)
PRELIMINARY CARD
  • Champ Douglas Evans (144.25) vs. Ronnie Mann (144.75)
  • Paul Bradley (170.5) vs. Johnny Reese (169.25)
  • Aaron Rosa (241.75) vs. Devin Cole (233.25)
  • Eric Davila (176.5) vs. Pete Spratt (170.25)*
  • Karen Darabedyan (155.75) vs. Daniel Straus (152.75)

Paul Daley missed his weight and gave up 10% of his purse. Other than that, it sounds like a pretty sweet show. According to mmajunkie, the lone title fight is a featherweight bout between Douglas Evans and Ronnie Mann, which is on the preliminary card. That's pretty crazy.

I'll be watching. Having Bas Rutten and Don Frye as announcers is the greatest idea in the history of all times.

I'll probably tune in too. I've never seen a Shark Fight event so it will be interesting.

Don Frye is an announcer now? I thought he was still fighting; that will be entertaining to say the least.

Nice. Does anybody have a link to the other fights? Or you think one will one pop up on atdhe or channelsurfing when the fights start.

EDIT - Nevermind it's up.

I've never heard Frye do commentary, is he the one that sounds like he's chewing on testosterone as a snack?

Sick RNC by the way.

Yea that's him. You see what he's wearing? He looks and sounds like a drunker Macho Man. I think he dipped his chaw in a fifth of whiskey during the last commercial.

OMG, I just saw a glimpse of it. It's like he found an American flag out back and fashioned a shirt with it. Awesome.

$20 on Semtex

Edit - I figured this knucklehead would have learned how to wrestle after the Koscheck fight

What?! I mean, sure, Daley kinda of won but Masvidal won the 2nd round. What is this UD bullshit?

Agreed

What did Daley say at the end there? Did he say something about the fans not making as much money as he does? I must have misheard that, right?

You heard correctly. He thanked the booing fans for buying their ticket and paying his wages. Have fun over at Strikeforce, I hope Nick Diaz chokes the shit out of him.

Houston vs Sokoudjou?

This could be incredibly awesome or equally weak.

I figured he would have learned some humility from the Koscheck incident.

Houston Kimbo was pretty terrible, so I'm not holding out much hope for this one.

Edit - anytime I post a prediction in this forum, I'm 100% wrong.
