This article came out on Hardwood Houdini today on Theis as the Celtics' "forgotten rookie," so I thought it might be worth starting a Theis thread. Among other comments on him:
So overall, I'd have to say this is a home run. He would be fearsome with a good three-point shot, but I don't think that's as necessary for his game as say for Semi's.
Watching him for a few games at the beginning of the season, I was dismayed to see NBA players blowing by him -- he doesn't have a lot of quickness. But he adjusted very well, to the point where he's involved in a lot more plays near the basket than I thought he'd be. Rim protector lite? He also has great instincts and court sense and doesn't seem to make a lot of the typical boneheaded rookie mistakes. Weaknesses seem to be that he has no dribble/drive and his three-point shot has been pretty bad (though he had the game where he went 2/2 from three). He is one of the best rebounders on the team, and shows no issues of being undersized because of how aggressive and strong he is on the boards. You see the plays he makes on loose balls on defense, and it is no surprise how quickly he earned the trust of the coach. His minutes are limited, but he has been effective enough to average over a double double per 36 minutes.
