Same here. There's some holdover in my mind from earlier this century where I feel compelled to jump on any ticket deals I come across, even for a meaningless game.
I just like to go to the last game of the season at Fenway, even if it's a junk game and a junk team. Last year we got to see Xander, JD, and Eck off while hiding from the rain in the grandstand. I hope this year it's the last time we see Dave O'Brien.

I also like the last game. I’ll be there

For those breathlessly following Yoshida's march to a MLB record, thanks to the incomparable @Brand Name I have good news and bad news:

Good news: Masa is indeed a heated battle with Steven Kwan of the Indians for the major league lead in grounding out to second base. Each has done so 69 times going into tonight's action

Bad news: That total is apparently nowhere near the MLB record, although what the actual mark is is somewhat vague

Just admit you wanted to post 69 in a game thread.

Last one at Fenway. Let’s win! (There’s a twist!)
Though we should issue a “cease and desist,”
we watch as part of an unholy tryst
of True Fans, Idiots, and Masochists
‘cause after 5 games, the team will be missed.

69? Second base? Times have changed.

Ah, the poems are shrinking
As the Red Sox are stinking

Last one should be one line. I know of all people, @LynnRice75 can make that work.

This is the way the season ends.
This is the way the season ends.
This is the way the season ends.
Not with a bang, but a whimper.

Thanks for noticing the trend. I started shrinking them when we were at 8 games left, I think. One line per game remaining.
The last day, might inspire a longer send-off, but if my efforts coincide with the team’s efforts, one line might be all I can muster.

I'll be in person for this one, having grabbed the $99 masochist four-pack loge seats offer.
I took advantage of that offer last night. You can count on at least one good thing coming out of going to a game; last night Jake Peavy was in Autograph Alley and he graciously let my daughter try on his 2013 World Series ring. Made her night.

I think the appropriate last day poem has already been penned:

Those are the most incredible things! Have a friend who won a ring with the '95 Braves. I was in awe of it when I got to put it on.

The rings nowadays are monstrosities not meant to be worn. Too damn heavy!

That was interesting. Cora says that the left-handed hitters on the Sox have failed to take advantage of the wall, with the exception of Masa and, after the half, Casas. The question was in answer to the Sox's dismal record in their home ball park.

He's just realizing this now, I suppose? And steps are being put in place to correct it for next May?

Apparently the use of the wall by LHH was all about Verdugo. Have we seen a player get in Cora’s doghouse before? Hanley?
