Rousey is the best. LOL @ anyone who has to fight this woman. I hope she beats up Meisha Tate's husband next.

Absolutely an evolutionary athlete and talent. Way ahead of the curve. Great for the sport. As someone with a new daughter I'm enormously grateful for her existence, but let's honor her ability by keeping it in perspective. There's an 18 year old girl out there who's been training MMA for 5 years already whos gonna come on the scene in 2020 and be Jordan to Ronda's Wilt.EvilEmpire said:This is well put.
Deadspin has one, for now.ilol@u said:Any early GIFs/clips from the RR "fight"?
It's really hard to get much from this fight. RR obviously realized right away Correia couldn't hurt her so she just swung wild till she knocked the smaller fighter out. She might've stayed more disciplined and looked more impressive to a trained eye if she had to respect Correia's power, but that obviously wasnt the case.Joe D Reid said:Deadspin has one, for now.
I know nothing--nothing--about fighting, but it feels like one of the baseline rules should be "Don't let your opponent stand directly in front of you and punch you where your spine meets your neck."
Marciano490 said:Come on now. Her judo is great but her hands suck. She probably had 15 pounds on Correia, walked straight ahead and winged wide ass bombs.
She's great, but she's also Gracie 20 years ago. Let the women's game catch up a little and we'll see how dominant she is.

Nobody's downplaying Ronda. She's great. She doesnt compete in judo anymore. She's in mixed martial arts. Lots of great wrestlers and jiu jitsu practitioners have gone through the ufc and been stopped out when they ran into more well-rounded fighters. Right now Ronda can run through the division because nobody can stop her judo. She can arm bar people in ten seconds. Same thing happened with Grace and his bjj, or was that an esoteric form of martial art back then too?luckiestman said:
Woman's judo is a very competitive international sport. Good fucking luck "catching up". Gracie 20 years ago won because of information, there has not been a shortfall of information for any of these other women. BTW, the founder of the UFC's son was in Ronda's corner tonight.
Ronda has been training with men for a long time expecting to win in Judo. She is a bad ass chick. Her hands can be garbage. She could be the champ for the next 5 years and not throw a punch. Unfortunately for the other women, Ronda appears to hit hard.
People can downplay Ronda all they want, it just sounds foolish.
BTW, she couldn't beat professional men in fighting, that's ridiculous. She could probably hang with them and beat some in grappling and that is amazing. Ronda forever.

To be a truly all time dominant fighter, RR will have to develop an all around game. Tonight she looked like she couldn't punch for shit. Maybe against a bigger, more skilled fighter she would've been tighter, but I didn't see that tonight.
Marciano490 said:Who are the best fighters right now and what is their one great skill and one serviceable skill?
Also, which college or professional hall of fame are you in and for what sport? Just curious because you're calling the Gracies not good athletes. I've heard people make that argument about golfers or curlers or even MLB sluggers, but never combat sports people.

I didn't call the "Gracies" bad athletes. I said Royce was a not a good athlete and I meant it in the domain of professional fighters. Royce is probably not in the top 3 athletes of his own siblings and not top 4 if you count Rolls as a brother. Compared to the typical fat male in the US today, sure, Royce is a phenomenal fucking athlete.
I don't know who the best guys are at the very moment, I was on a hiatus for a few years from mma. I'll give you the guys I'm familiar with that are all time greats
GSP elite takedowns serviceable striking. This shit works in tandem. GSP out-struck a lot of dudes that would beat him in a striking only bout because they feared the takedown.
Anderson Silva elite striking serviceable groundwork and takedown defense
Matt Hughes elite wrestling serviceable striking
Liddell had elite takedown defense and one hit KO power but his overall striking wasn't polished and that is why he got fucked up a lot of times later in his career.
Hitting hard solves a lot of problems in this sport. No matter how polished it looks.
Marciano490 said:Women's MMA isn't there yet. A great fighter would've knocked out Rousey tonight if she took that tack. Now again maybe she wouldn't have fought that way against a woman with power. We haven't seen that yet. Do we really think she's so dominant because she's superhuman, when no men are currently that dominant, or is she just really good and super ahead of the curve?

Kliq said:On an unrelated note, the main reason I can't get into MMA is because of the contrived storylines that are set up by UFC for the fight. Rousey's "I hope now nobody talks about my family" line is just such an obviously scripted line, it hurts the sport more than it helps it, imo.

Belfort’s peers have long viewed the Brazilian as a doper. That perception is reinforced by the facts, which include not only the well-known public record, but a previously unreported incident in 2012 in which the UFC mistakenly emailed out results of a Belfort blood test to a group of 29 fighters, managers, and trainers three weeks ahead of his late-notice challenge for Jon Jones’s light-heavyweight title, which took place three years ago this week.
Those results indicated that Belfort had higher than allowable levels of testosterone in his system, and that—at minimum—red flags should have been raised inside the UFC, which became aware of the information as it regrouped from the recent cancellation of UFC 151.
Gustaffson already beat Jones and got robbed by judgesmikeford said:good fight, maybe not a great fight.
Jon Jones should wreck both these dudes though when he returns.
Robbed is an exaggeration. I thought he won the fight but I can see how people think Jones won.luckiestman said:Gustaffson already beat Jones and got robbed by judges

Snowplow said:Hopefully we get to see Cormier/Jones next. Cormier said he wants to fight Jones two more times before retiring. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Bader get the next shot though, giving Jones more time to get his life in order.
I have a question, Can Nick Diaz be cleared to fight in any state other than Nevada? Or does the NAC's decision keep him from fighting anywhere in the U.S? Maybe a future possibility of the ufc releasing him to fight outside the U.S....joining Ben Askren in ONE FC. (If he loses his appeal)
