I can honestly see the logic. Conditions are miserable, the soccer will likely be pretty basic as a result, and Zardes might be the best “hold it up up top or run in behind” guy for playing that kind of match.
I’m not too upset by it. This is among the strongest lineups we could put out there. There could be debate about the CBs, but as long as it’s two of Miles/Zim/Richards I’m fine with it. My preference is Pepi at the 9 because he’s shown an ability in a US shirt to finish crosses. Zardes is a better fit than Ferreira given how the team has attacked.
A fluke goal can win this, and Zardes has shown a skill at doing that
Pepi started off blazing hot and cooled off. He just turned 19, and has a very good chance to be our starter in the future, but he's not a set-it-and-forget-it starter as of right now. I can understand going with a guy like Zardes in what's likely to be an ugly brawl of a game. His work rate, defense, and general tactical discipline will be useful here. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pepi come off the bench today.

Holy fuck Paramount+ is bad app. It took me 10 min to find the feed. And in the search "soccer" or "us mens' led to no result. I got an option to watch minor league soccer old games.
The "live' stuff had bazillion options for football (that is second TV). Why don't all these apps just copy Netflix or Amazon prime for their UI.

Crappy goal aside, I’m not mad at the US start here. Pulisic looking aggressive, cheesy dive just now aside.
We love getting the ball in space in the final third then giving no support whatsoever to that guy.
A bit late here, but I think that goal was about 75% on Turner alone. Between the horrendous goal kick, being slow getting out, and then not getting a strong enough hand on it, he really needs to do better.

I think the US actually looks decently creative and connected here, they’re just not executing in the final third to get good finishing looks.

I dunno, most of this qualifying they’ve looked like hot garbage in the first half. This is an upgrade as far as offensive dangerousness.
This game would be much more entertaining at 9v9 or 10v10. With the tiny field, just not enough space to do anything.

He has been excellent. But they're going to need him to start taking some more chances pushing up. They're dominating possession but not creating chances.

He made a couple of even better ones in the Honduras game. He can be a little erratic with his distribution but he’s excellent with reflex saves.
Would like to see Morris and maybe Pepi as the first two subs.
