If precedents hold yes, but the NFL will look pretty shallow if they complain about wasted merchandise. Not that that would stop them...Good, finally. I assume it's too late for this season to change it?
View: https://twitter.com/Russellmania621/status/1282522801015001089There is much more going on at Redskins Park than a name change. I’m told by a source there will be some more news that comes out tomorrow other than the name change. And it’s not good. I did not get specifics, but get ready people.
That would be good news. So it’s 100000000% not that.Snyder selling?
Just a guess:Highly doubtful.
edit: some kind of player scandal or Snyder. My money is on a Glazer like tease for a load of nothing.
So we have huge news and two journalists are teasing that we're going to have to wait and see? In a world where reporters would trample over their pwn mothers to tweet a scoop first?
The problem with this theory is that JP Finlay already replied "Nope" to it.
View: https://twitter.com/MrChickSports/status/1282524239099318273I’ve been told it has to do with the front office firings of Alex Santos and Richard Mann II. Again no details, no specifics. Sorry people...I’m waiting just like you.
What did they do that was so bad that it will overshadow the Name change?Redskins fired Alex Santos, the director of pro personnel, and Richard Mann II, the asst. dir. of pro personnel Saturday. @BenStandig first to report. Team source tells me Santos’ departure is “non-football” related, but would not elaborate. Gut tells me we’ll know why soon
Or perhaps its so bad for the franchise that they need the namechange to save face?View: https://twitter.com/ScottABC7/status/1282535273952403456

Some conflicting reports below yours. The wording of this one is about who takes over, so could be the reason for firing. The problem with this theory is that JP Finlay already replied "Nope" to it.

If private and public sentiment has dictated the change this quickly, I don't think they're going to stagger along with the old name for another year.Good, finally. I assume it's too late for this season to change it?
Only the sycophantic NFL media would believe that the firing of two individuals known to no one outside Washington is some earth-shattering news that would dwarf the name change.View: https://twitter.com/ScottABC7/status/1282535273952403456

I wouldnt be so sure. If they truly are keeping the colors, they may be able to make the transition. Besides, who knows when the season is actually starting.Good, finally. I assume it's too late for this season to change it?
Too many Globetrotters references if they use GeneralsBack to names, apparently there is a connection to "military" and Snyder is "very excited" about it.
I still have my money on Redtails, but also could see Generals.
Good point both of you. Redtails it is...An actual, non-exhibition team wouldn't actually go with "The Washington Generals," would they?
edit before posting: What Lose said above.
It's possible they dropped the news that they will officially announce a name change today as a way of mitigating publicity of whatever non-football reasons these guys were fired for. The name change news was imminent regardless, but I was surprised to read this morning that they are announcing it today.View: https://twitter.com/ScottABC7/status/1282535273952403456

Now, after reading the nothingburger of an announcement which confirms what everybody already knew without providing more info, I think the above is more likely. It's possible they dropped the news that they will officially announce a name change today as a way of mitigating publicity of whatever non-football reasons these guys were fired for. The name change news was imminent regardless, but I was surprised to read this morning that they are announcing it today.
Just wondering, what's your reasoning here? Why would you never consider using it?No I would not. It's not a word I would ever consider using. And it's also a team name that 90% of NA's couldn't give a crap about. That ship appears to have sailed though so the New England Empathizers (new name for the Pats?) can now feel better that they've advocated a name change on behalf of the plebes who weren't smart enough to know they should be offended.
Would you be offended if Sean Hannity called you a Patriot?
Just a note, the two words are unrelated. Niggard comes from Anglo-Frisian (you can find related words across Scandinavian and low German dialects) and the latter word is simply an anglicized pronunciation of the French word for black (neger) and was used by English speakers in the late 16th/early 17th century to refer to Africans. As an example I offer a word whose meaning has changed. That word is niggardly. Originally meaning stingy or miserly, its origin is from the Middle Ages. Over time, a derivation of it was used in a derogatory (to say the least) sense since the mid 1500's and really picked up steam in the 1700's. In modern times, one cannot use the word niggardly without it being confused with it's derivation. In fact there are a few incidences where niggardly was used correctly in public but was misunderstood to mean something else and the user faced serious repercussions. Its use by a Washington DC aide to Mayor Williams in the late 1990's ended up getting the aide fired (though was offered his job back) for using that word in reference to official DC business. Interestingly enough, Julian Bond (then chairman of the NAACP) was taken aback by the backlash of the use of that word and reportedly said "You hate to think you have to censor your language to meet other people's lack of understanding".
Amerigo Vespucci was a slave ownerRed Tails makes sense to honor a historically Black Unit. And it matches the "Military Connection" Rumor thats out there.
But I might go with "Americans"
Washington Americans has the same Cadence??? (Not sure of the right word) as the Washington _ _ _ _ _ _ NS.
I also like the inclusiveness of it.
Washington Traffic JamsThings that DC is known for unrelated to politics or government and the larger industry around them (lobbying, etc.)
Washington Half-Smokes
Washington GoGos
Washington Dukes (Ellington)
That said, the Red.... ideas above are all pretty good.
Washington Disc(h)ordWashington Traffic Jams
Washington Shitty Pizzas
Washington Henry Rollins'
Yes, good one!Washington Disc(h)ord
Maybe it was "Chiefs" as in Joint Chiefs? Snyder and Co. need to put more thought into this.I've heard there's been a delay because their first pick had trademark issues.
I'm guessing, "Washington Indian Braves."
