Maryland just had a pick 6 called back because a roughing the passer penalty.

That TD would've put them up 14-3 and in solid control of the game.

Temple is a decent team. Can't really gve them that many free shots.

The defense is ok, but the offense has been dreadful.

Yards: ECU 273, Temple 57. But Temple is up 14-3

And Temple blocks a ECU FG. this is crazy

This Maryland - Penn State game is comically shitty. Two of the most inept offenses I've seen together on one field in a while. Holy shit are they bad.

Good god ANOTHER Fumble by ECU on a kickoff return after a Temple TD.

I think the guy lost the ball after he was down under a pile but they ruled it a fumble and replay let the ruling stand.

I posted last week about W. Michigan Freshman RB, Jarvion Franklin, who has 1,150 yards and 19td's already this season.  On the first drive today, he just broke off a 55 yard td against Miami (Ohio) to get #20.  64 yards on 3 carries today so far.  He's incredible.

Crazy sequence, ECU QB Carden throws a pass to flat, goes through the receivers hands, turns out to be a lateral, Temple recovers it right at the sideline. It looked reviewable because it was questionable if the Temple guy had possession in bounds, but Temple lines up quickly and runs a dive play so no review.

tl,dr: ECU's 5TH FUMBLE

Maryland takes the 17-16 lead midway through the 4th.

This loss would probably eliminate PSU from being bowl eligible. They need two wins out of Temple, Michigan State, Illinois and Indiana. They aren't good enough to win two of those if grey can't beat Maryland at home. They have regressed so much from Week 1 it's crazy.

Franklin's not winning many over in Happy Valley with this tea.

Holy shit.  Pitt kicker just shanked the shit out of a chip shot field goal to win against Duke with no time left.  Going to overtime 38-38.

I wouldn't say PSU regressed, at least not linearly. They almost knocked off OSU. First seasons are often bumpy rides.

Also, Maryland has been solid this season. The Wisconsin and OSU games were bad obviously, but they beat Iowa and only lost to WVU by 3. They are better than Indiana or Illinois, and probably Temple. PSU should be able to win 2 of those 3.

That run by Conners. What a game for that guy. 36 carries for 263 yrds

He's been doing it all year from what I've seen.  Not sure if he has the speed to be a major threat in the pros, but he has some serious power game.

I don't watch much Pitt. Not because they are bad, but because they simply don't register on my radar. The only Pitt games I've seen this season are weeknight games when I'm in a bar, and usually i can't remember the games the next day :)

Penn State gives the ball back to Maryland with 2:20 left at their own 40 which is in range of MDs kicker.

And one play later with the 30. Maryland will win this game, down 2 currently. 1:30 left.

Dartmouth-Harvard is starting in about 5 minutes for anyone looking to watch the biggest game in Hanover NH in probably 15-20 years.  Winner has a clear path to the Ivy League title.

PSU turns it over on downs, Maryland wins.

2nd win ever for Maryland vs PSU. The Lions are in free fall mode. 4 losses in a row now.

You're probably right.  But I'm not surprised.  I mean, the Lions are exactly where everyone a year+ ago said they would be.  Why is it so surprising now that the expectations are being fulfilled?

Oh...the recruiting guru arrived.  But Franklin recruiting success still has yet to be determined on the field - and really has no effect on THIS year, and likely very little next.

What Penn State now has is a OL with no second-year starter.  And 2 of those first year starters who began the season are now out, so 2 of 5 are from the second row in the depth chart.  Surprising? Hell, I'm shocked they've performed as well as they have at times.  With the scholarship reductions and 4 (or perhaps 5) scholarship holders not even on the team anymore, Penn State suits up less than 50 schollies.  That will rectify itself.

And Hackenberg is performing about as well as can be expected given the constant harassment and pounding he's taking.  I can't blame him for often throwing across his body or off his back foot, chicken winging many of his passes, or flinching.  Hell - who wouldn't?  What I do criticize him for in many instances though is his apprehension about tucking the ball and running - something he did much more often last year and at the beginning of this year.  I don;t think we'll see him benched - but if so, Michael Connor will have an opportunity to show why he was the 5th rated HS QB coming out last year.

Florida with a nice fake field goal for a TD to tie UGA in the 2nd. If FL pulls this I may have to grab my shirt and go trolling

I thought the CFP rankings were pretty solid, except for Georgia, they hadn't played a very strong schedule.

Whoever wins the SEC East would probably be 6th or 7th in the West.

so the big12 is dead with this TCU loss, right? no way they can choose Baylor or KState amongst the the 1-loss teams at this point

of course, TCU could still win this game. but they seem overwhelmed. And how does GA get its ass kicked by FL?

is that a big problem for the SEC? the east is terrible, so the conf title winner and the #2 team from the west make the playoff. the conference championship game is a joke, though

The only problem is if there's an upset in the title game. It happens sometimes.

Also, I think K-State gets in with one loss, since the loss is to a very good Auburn team. They'd be unbeaten in the conference.

In the NFL the spot goes back to the spot of the fumble.

Just for clarity: fumbling into the end zone is irrelevant to the play--throughout most of the game, you can recover a fumble in the end zone for a TD.

Because it was in the last 2 minutes of the half (or 4th down), the NFL would return it to the spot of the fumble, but that's independent of whether the end zone is involved, right?

(And even in the last 2 minutes/4th down, if the person who fumbled is the one who recovers then they can advance it).

Right, and even if there isn't an upset, the attrition from just having to play the game against another physical (if overmatched overall) SEC East team could be a significant hit to the SEC West winner's chances to get through 2 more games to win it all.  This is obviously partly me being a rationalizing Auburn fan, but my best case scenario is Miss St. running the table, and Auburn winning out from here as well.  Let Miss St. take the pounding in the SEC Title Game while Auburn stands as the top 1-loss team.

The thing K-State has going for them is that it's not possible for enough SEC West teams to only have 1-loss to block them.  They just need to beat out the non-FSU non-SEC West top team, which is doable if Auburn is the top 1-loss SEC West team.

If there are 4+ teams with 1 or fewer losses, I don't think they'll take a 2-loss SEC team that wasn't in the title game. But if that SEC-non-champ has 1 loss, they'd be hard to not chose, especially Auburn with a win over a K-State team they are competing with for a spot. IT would suck though for K-state not to get in after running the table in a conference with 9 conference games.

edit- long way to go though
