It's basically impossible to leave someone more wide open in the end zone from the 6 yard line.

There are a LOT of dumb rules in football but this might be the dumbest. And, it goes against player safety.

Pretty impressive for a drive to start at the 20 and end in a safety. That's rare.

I use "drive" in the loosest sense of the word, of course.

So if a ball is thrown 30 yards out of bounds, the receiver is in the area, but that is grounding.

Miami reels off 9 strait points; what a fucking juggernaut they are.

Then they fumble the free kick.

The thought of this well oiled machine led by blood and guts Philbin coming here in January for a playoff game scares the daylights out of ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......

If Carey correctly described the rule, it's not a terrible call. If the relevant question is where the receiver is when the ball lands, and a missed route doesn't excuse grounding, that's not a crazy call. But that shouldn't be the rule. It should be where the receiver is when the ball was thrown.

Yeah, but I think they're saying that the other player secured it first.

But it was still loose, it took a few seconds for the first guy to actually gain possession.

Or split the rule into two: unintentional grounding and intentional grounding.

If you punt a free kick out of bounds does it go to the 40 like a kickoff?

I believe the actual rule is that it's 25 yards from where the kickoff is. So I think it actually would have gone to the Miami 45, since free kicks are from the 20?

It's 30 yards on a safety kick for some reason.
