The 718
#98 Fletcher Cox scoops up a fumble recovery and takes it to the house.

Here, I renew my idea that football would become 1000% more entertaining and watchable if the ball carrier scoring a touchdown had to kick the XP or score the 2PT- a true "conversion."

I love how now that everyone is complaining about the refs that the Steratores and McCauleys are all suddenly disagreeing with their calls.

Brandon Aubrey is now the first NFL kicker ever with multiple successful field goal attempts at 59+ yards in a single game. Previously, Martin Gramatica 10/6/03 (0/2), Brandon McManus 1/3/21 (0/2), and Wil Lutz 10/2/22 (1/2) had 2+ 59+ attempts in a game. They all lost.

Future Hall of Famer?

He’s got a slightly better individual resume than Ty Law. Both were 5x Pro Bowlers and 2x 1st team AP, but Gilmore also has the 2019 DPoY; Law never finished better than 3rd in the voting. But I don’t think Law is in without the three rings, and Gilmore only has one.
yeah gilmore is a good case a bigger ty law

That's what kills me about the NFL refs - they call a million things, then let an obvious DPI in the end zone go unpenalized for reasons.

What a great new “point of emphasis”!
This is a league that changed the catch rule mid game in the Super Bowl. They make “points of emphasis” to suit their needs, often on a whim. I’m not bitter tho

I feel bad for the Chiefs. First the officials starting calling when their tackle moves early, now they won't let their wide receivers line up illegally.

Big win for Cowboys but they have a much tougher schedule rest of way than Philly so probably won’t end up mattering much unless they win out. Good for a confidence boost though.

It's gotta be tough weak after weak wondering if the NFL is going to give them every call they expect to get or not... and if they're going to be allowed to disregard the rules completely or just sometimes.

one question though.. with offensive offsides..why isn't the play just whistled dead? Seems weird to keep the play going where the only real possibility of anything counting is a turnover or at best a defensive penalty that offsets the initial penalty.

they never call offsides until after the ball is snapped. He could have gone onsides before the ball was snapped and had no issues. But instead they want to claim some grand conspiracy theory that the NFL is out to get them.

They should at least wait until the League takes a few first round picks away before they claim conspiracy. As it is this plot adds up to a road playoff game. God forbid.

The comments to the media and sideline hysterics were amateurish. They should have let off steam before making any comments. Frustration, sure. But they have no one but themselves to blame for this one. I actually thought Mahomes handled the previous week pretty well. This one, not so much. And Reid appeared to egg him on with his own comments.

The crazy part is that 1. They admit he was offside.. so it was the right call. 2. They still could have made a play to get the first down..

The only real reason they’re upset is because they scored.

Ok.. but why continue after the snap? The offense can’t really do anything positive with the play..other than get the defense to commit a penalty.

The Chiefs are scoring 22 points per game. Why isn't that a bigger story? Elite QB in his prime with an elite play caller and scheme and Travis Kelce scoring 4 fewer point per game than Peyton Manning did throwing to Austin Collie and Pierre Garçon and Brady did throwing to Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell, in a more favorable offensive environment.

On the Toney play, if he's out wide that probably doesn't get called because you can see around him. The Cheffers pool report made clear that the DJ was completely blocked out from seeing the ball, which would make it impossible for him to call other LOS action. Can't let that go.

I guess it is a free play for the defense, just like defensive offsides is a free play for the offense. That seems fair. The defense gets the choice to take the penalty or the result of the play.

Yeah this is actually a rules difference I did not know. In NCAA football offensive offside immediately kills the play.

Another thing that's kinda being ignored is had the play stood, Allen would've had 1:12 and 3 timeouts. It was far from over.

Mahomes complaining about the refs is just pathetic. Nobody has been more rewarded by penalties in the last 5 years than the Chiefs. In particular, last year in the playoffs was an abomination against both the Eagles and Bengals.

And Toney was blatantly offsides. Shut up Pat. Blame your idiot WRs who can't catch, line up correctly, or hold onto the ball in the unlikely event they do make a catch.

Until yesterday I generally thought Mahomes was a good guy, albeit one who surrounded himself with extremely unlikable people in his wife and brother.

But his behavior yesterday is truly offputting:

- throwing a 10 bell nutty on the sidelines including screaming at the refs, slamming his helmet and having to be held back from going back out on the field.
- "Let us play the game"
- (to Josh Allen) "Worst effing call I've ever seen"
- "This impacted Kelce's HoF career"
- Doubling and tripling down on those takes in the post-game pressers.

All this over a call that is literally black and white no subjectivity involved.

It's as shocking as it is distasteful. He's acting like a spoiled baby who crumbles under the slightest bit of adversity, which is bizarre because until this point in his career he's nearly always stepped up his game in the face of adversity.

Mahomes getting killed nationally for the crybaby act, especially since he got caught on the hot mic complaining to Josh Allen after the game. I get that they're frustrated because they've had several games go against them with big drops, and last week they didn't get the DPI call when they should've, but come on there was no doubt he was offsides, this wasn't a bang bang play.

The fact that they lost an AFC title game and a game with what would have been an all time play with pre snap penalties is pretty ironic.

He may have Kelce but his receivers and RBs are probably the worst of his career.

Edit; mahomes has also been really careless with the ball imo.. throwing a lot of passes into too tight of a window or just trying to be too cute or just looping things too lazily. He’s been extremely turnover prone.

In general, I tend to give amped up players a pass for expressing frustration from the sidelines during the heat of the moment.

But his doubling down with absurd takes later, along with Reid’s whining is over the top.

Pool report was pretty funny.

Basically... yeah sometimes if you ask we'll let you know, but when you're so far offsides we can't even see the ball.... that's on you.
Honestly, that was the rationale on the Dee Ford call. One of the experts discussing the play (Gene Steratore?) said that if a player is slightly over, the ref will tell them to get onsides before the play, but if they're way into the neutral zone, the ref will expect the player to recognize that and get back onsides on their own.
