Why would Cousins want to sign here? No skill players + tough division.
This is my fault; I made a joke about trading for him based on the Jets thread and the yearning for another option at QB and… I guess we’d all rather imagine other QBs than Mac today, eh?

I don't get the point of playing Zappe this year. Just know for sure that Mac isn't the guy, that has a ton of value even if he sucks.
QB's typically get pulled when they have a game like Mac just did. More about trying to keep Mac's head in the right place for the next game than getting a look at Zappe.

You’re not sure Mac isn’t the guy?

What has he done to make you think he will ever win a Super Bowl for the Patriots?

How about 12 games?

Especially when he’d get big money on his post-rookie deal just because everyone gets big money on their post-rookie deal now, so roster construction would be even more limited than it is now.

He needs to be good, now. This is his window. He needs to show the team he’s so good that if/when he commands a bigger contract, the team can still win with him because his talent will cover roster holes due to his significantly larger cap hit.

But third year on a rookie deal he’s done nothing to make anyone optimistic about the future of the franchise while he’s under center. Zero.

He’s just not the guy. Not even close.

I am sure we've got some younger posters hear us old guys talk about how bad this team was at times pre-Brady. Well, it was like this, a lot.

Do they? I honestly don't see many starters across the league being pulled with 20 minutes to go in the game.

Edit: also, considering how Mac lets shit snowball and struggles to get over mistakes, I'd have more incentive to leave him in there to try and put some drives together. I'm kinda done coddling this kid. If his head isn't in the right place, too bad. Year 3.

Depends, but young QBs who have a terrible game and their mechanics fall apart do sometimes get benched once it's out of hand to keep them from repeating mistakes.

Good game. Kinda feels like Belichick is gonna be remembered as the guy who happened to coach the Patriots when Tom Brady was QB.
Not a chance. Dude has made two hall of fame defensive game plans to win super bowls. He will finish with the most wins and most SBs ever. HOF HC and assistant coach.

These are the kinds of games that bring the clarity that is required in order to properly evaluate your players, coaches, and front office. I've thought this team was bad all year and these half-hearted efforts against good teams weren't doing anyone any favors.

It was a bit hyperbolic, but without Brady, his record as a HC seems pretty average. Hopefully he gets to that all time wins record but looking like 25-26 at this point.

I think it’s more that the conventional wisdom gives coaches more credit and more blame across the board than they probably deserve.

It’s a QB-driven league. Mac Jones is a below-average QB. As great as he is, BB can’t make lemonade out of those lemons. But he got too much credit for TB12’s greatness, so it evens out if you coach long enough.

What gets me isn't whether BB can overcome a lack of offensive talent. It's that everything else, from the 4th down decision making to clock management to the penalties to the on-field matchup, all of which were hallmarks of the Pats dynasty, have completely disappeared.

BB is still good at one thing, and that's beating up on bad, young QBs. I don't see signs of any of the other things that made this team so well-coached for 20 years that seemingly had nothing to do with the talent of the QB. It's baffling.

I was a Mac defender but I'm running out of excuses. The whole offense sucks so bad it's hard to tell how much is Mac v general dysfunction. This is a mess that needs to be torn down to the studs.

Most coaches without good QBs look way worse. And NO coach with even HOF QBs has ever won six super bowls.

Completely agree with this. Brady didn’t elevate the rest of the team that much… did he? I mean he didn’t play ST or D.

She sounds like a fun gal.

If she's a Cowboys fan, she knows all about shitty teams; they've been a hot mess longer than you've been on the planet.
