My point about the NFL being absurdly over regulated stands. I love how there are certain ways one can celebrate a TD, and if not, a flag. What a league.
You can't take off your helmet. The rule is pretty clear on that one.

I know it’s the rule. I’m just saying that the NFL has a hundred utterly silly rules.
They don't want players taking their helmets off and using them as weapons.

Maybe the NFL has dumb rules. The helmet rule isn't one of them.

Sure. But they could enforce a rule that you can’t use the helmet as a weapon. It’s just funny that 20 guys can run to the end zone and mug for the camera, but a dude taking his helmet off is a personal foul.

*edit* It’s not a big deal. Just find it funny that a league full of big tough guys and big tough execs is more regulated than the Soviet Union.

I guess the odds must say play conservative in that spot but I never understand why not go for the touchdown. Give yourself two chances to win.

I think you have to know your kicker. If it's a guy like Tucker, Folk, Gano, Gould, McPherson, et al*, you're justified playing it conservatively. If he's a journeyman like Pinero, you should certainly not just count on him.

*And of course, Koo, but I did not want to jinx him.

The Rams have run like 700 plays on the 1 yard line and have gotten 0 yards so far. But have caused penalties.

Stafford scores on like 7th down from the 1 yard line. Stupid penalties by the D

Ok, but if he makes the PAT, there isn’t a need for the FG in OT. And the PAT curled left just before the post so I think it’s good if he’s 15 yards closer. Not that it matters at this point.
They both can share the blame. But Moore has the great TD catch that gave them the tie game, and Pinero only has those two missed kicks, so he will take more of the heat.

The touchdown was amazing to even get them there. I just don’t get taking the penalty to make it harder on your kicker. Like why even make it harder? Seems like a dumb move to me and I think the Pinero hits from the normal distance.

Edit: He knows if he takes is helmet off, it’s a 15 yard penalty, automatically. And he just assumes his kicker can hit with additional 15 yards. I think that’s a bad place to put a teammate.

Somehow it took the WFT trying to bury Antonio Gibson to finally realize the best way to utilize Antonio Gibson.

I don't think Moore even gave a thought to getting a penalty there. It was just a stupid move in the moment.

It looked deliberate to me. It’s not like his helmet was lose. He intentionally unsnapped it and removed it. I think he knew the team would be penalized and didn’t care. The players know that’s a penalty. I think he thought his kicker would make the PAT either way so he didn’t care about adding the extra distance.
