It’s really odd. Feels like the whistle was to protect Burrow, but it should work both ways.Doesn't the whistle stop the play? A defender can't hit an opponent after the whistle, but you can catch a TD after it?
The inconsistency between the shitty calls they don’t correct and the ones they do is getting tougher to rationalize..We’re all going to pretend the whistle didn’t blow?
I mean, #25 on the Raiders gave up on the play. He probably had no play on the ball, but he certainly could’ve put a hit on the receiver.
Probably the best thing eye in the sky could do, but damn, I’d be salty if I were a Raiders fan.
You mean outside of Collinsworth?Who else does NBC have that worked color in an NFL booth this season? That's the issue. (At least Brees has color experience this year *and* was part of NBC's NFL studio show, which by recent standards of the first Saturday Wild Card game makes him very qualified in relative terms.)
Tirico is great and IMO Brees is above average so far. He’s too new to have a schtick so he does actual analysis when he speaks.Who else does NBC have that worked color in an NFL booth this season? Egregious disregard for the rules, even if it worked out.Came back here to check if anybody else noticed the refs blew the play dead then pretended that they didn't lol.
We have our own Reddit. There are kicker groupies?
Well, yeah. Nobody has ever called two playoff games in two days, to my knowledge - Collinsworth will be with Al in KC tomorrow night. (And of course, his pro-Bengals bias can't be on display...)You mean outside of Collinsworth?
It’s an egregious fuck-up on the field, but that happens. I don’t have a problem with them intervening in a less-than-transparent way to allow to happen what would likely have happened anyway. I do have reservations about it in a case where it may cause a player in the future to disregard a whistle. It’s a helluva dilemma.Whistle was late enough. Probably not technically the correct call but I think the right call.
But why in earth did he blow the whistle? Burrow wasn't that close. Inexcusable.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't even looking at his feet when he threw it.Ref who blew the whistle was looking at Burrows’ feet and likely didn’t know he threw it.
I haven’t watched it again, but #25 was a step or two away from the receiver, so if the whistle was as late as you say, it didn’t make a difference. The whistle was much later in the replay than what I thought I heard when watching live. It was almost in the receiver’s hand.
Being charitable maybe the refs were discussing whether or not the whistle was late and determined it was not. That would be wrong but maybe not reviewable?
It looked like the Raiders defenders gave up before the ball got there. But maybe they gave up because they knew they had no chance, and not due to the whistle. But man it looks suspect.I haven’t watched it again, but #25 was a step or two away from the receiver, so if the whistle was as late as you say, it didn’t make a difference.
I'm not arguing with you as he may be the best option in this situation. But the problem is that he was their best option in this situation.Who else does NBC have that worked color in an NFL booth this season? That's the issue. Getting Zapruder on it it looks like the receiver is about nine yards deep in the end zone and the whistle starts when the ball is 5 or 6 yards deep.I haven’t watched it again, but #25 was a step or two away from the receiver, so if the whistle was as late as you say, it didn’t make a difference.
The whistle was blown with the ball a few feet from the receiver's hands. It didn't make a difference to the play. But if the play is dead when the whistle blows, it should not be a TD.It looked like the Raiders defenders gave up before the ball got there. But maybe they gave up because they knew they had no chance, and not due to the whistle. But man it looks suspect.
They'd have to bring in somebody on a one game contract. They only need one in-house NFL color analyst for the regular season, and he's working in KC tomorrow night. Brees is fine, though not remarkable, on the Notre Dame games. It's the logical move.I'm not arguing with you as he may be the best option in this situation. But the problem is that he was their best option in this situation.
Because his Dad taught heem how to pronounce words. Why does Chris Simms keep calling them the Bangles? It’s driving me crazy.
Yeah, I'm struggling to see what else @glennhoffmania would have NBC do. (Hire a guy who worked for Fox or CBS this season? That's a non-starter, surely.)They'd have to bring in somebody on a one game contract. They only need one in-house NFL color analyst for the regular season, and he's working in KC tomorrow night. I know. But visually it's striking and appears the Raiders quit on the play. But I think it was because they couldn't stop the pass. The whistle was blown with the ball a few feet from the receiver's hands. It didn't make a difference to the play. But if the play is dead when the whistle blows, it should not be a TD.
But refereeing incompetence just comes with the territory in the NFL. It's clearly not driving fans away, so they'll do nothing to fix it.
He usually saves that for Manic MondayWhy does Chris Simms keep calling them the Bangles? It’s driving me crazy.
Nothing. Given the circumstances they didn't have good options. I'm saying that one of the big four networks having only Dungy and Brees to pick from is a problem. Maybe they should have more competent studio analysts. Or since they knew this game was coming up maybe they get a college guy up to speed. Given the state of an announcing this isn't surprising. But my point was that, in general, it's always amazing that the networks can't get better quality analysts.Yeah, I'm struggling to see what else @glennhoffmania would have NBC do. Dude, NBC literally has one game a week for a span of the entire season. Tirico is also awesome.I'm not arguing with you as he may be the best option in this situation. But the problem is that he was their best option in this situation.
