Are illegal man downfield penalties a point of emphasis for the refs for the playoffs or something? We see maybe a half-dozen a season and at least 4 tonight.

How do you not cover the short middle of the field on 2/15? I'm convinced if you cover the short/intermediate inside the numbers of the field and have any sort of pass rush you will have a successful defense. No one is forced to throw outside anymore.

Geez, even on the balls not tipped his sidearm throws are barely getting by helmets. The play against Herbert is to keep those arms up.

I saw a lot this year. Thinking it might have been a POE to start the year

It may have been a flop but he 100 pct pushed him.
Yep. But I think we are just asking too much of players. Stuff like this happens so often and the commentary is always “that was so dumb.” But football players are not dumb. They know the stakes.

It seems so easy to judge and say “what an idiot,” but clearly these are not idiots and they really want to win. They do not want to fuck up. These are not isolated incidents.

Maybe the truth is that it is just impossible to play football at the highest level and to be able to flick it on and off like a light switch. That can’t be an excuse for dirty play or dangerous play. But some discretion should be in order. That felt like a continuation and non dangerous football play to me where we can let it go. Reffing is hard I guess.

Tomorrow, Buffalo beats Miami, the Giants and Vikings play a meaningless game, and Cincy beats Baltimore.

The blowout that isn’t: Things getting hinkey for the Chargers all of a sudden.

I thought it was a flop live, but if it was he definitely earned it - his head snapped back hard when he hit the ground, his helmet almost came off. If it were Tua, he'd be concussed again.
He flopped so hard I thought the independent spotter might flag him, especially the way his leg twitched. That would be the ultimate penalty for flopping.

Staley is so dumb - they’re gonna be down to one timeout.
Not that you ever want to lose timeouts because you never know.... But the team up by 10 with 7 min left shouldn't be quite as concerned.

Worth a challenge if there's a chance its incomplete, though replays not looking promising for LAC

Is this the worst QB performance in playoff history? It has to be up there.
5 guys tied with a 0.0 (min 10 attempts). Including:

Otto Graham 1953 CLE @ DET - 2-15 20 yards, 2 INT
Craig Morton 1978 DEN vs. DAL (Super Bowl XII) - 4-15, 39 yards, 4 INT

Staley doesn’t seem to have any feel for the game. Seems like he makes decisions without any regard for the broader context

I’d love to see a rule that gives 30 seconds to challenge whether or not the other team runs a play. Win the challenge and you can take the better result — either the play as properly called or the subsequent play. Lose the challenge and the other team can choose whether to take the subsequent play.

I wonder why they put Dungy on these. Surely that guy doesn't have many fans. What's he bring to the table?

Illegal contact, not called.
Offsides right tackle next play, not called.

These refs are terrible

Bosa is literally getting held on every play.

He has every right to complain and the refs just fucking fucked the Chargers.

I sympathize with missed holding calls but the reality is there's holding on almost every play, can't call them all...

I would just kick here but I get the analytic logic
