You obviously have not been paying attention to the city lately.... it has become one of the worst places to live in terms of crime, homelessness, safety and yes.... poop everywhere. Perhaps you haven't been there for a while or perhaps you like living in those conditions.
As a fellow resident of San Francisco, I agree with @DeJesus Built My Hotrod. The media reports are wildly exaggerated, and there are a lot of great reasons to live here.I live in the City of San Francisco. What is your basis for saying this? We have some of those things but in my travels they aren't materially different than any other major US city.
As for SF as a FA destination, I agree that its not top of the list but my sense is that's more a function of the Giants not spending or the ballpark dimensions versus other quality of life aspects. I feel like the Bay Area offers professional athletes a pretty wide range of lifestyle options versus many other places but maybe its wrong. I don't think anyone is deterred by poop - if that were the case how does any NY team get someone to sign?
In the absence of significant acquisitions, this reminds me of the deadline acquisition in the form of a player coming back from the DL line that we have heard far too often.https://twitter.com/maccerullo/status/1732128238690787666
Tweet from Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald:
Alex Cora just spoke for 20 minutes. One notable highlight, he again pointed to Josh Winckowski as a guy who could be a factor in the starting rotation picture. Something to monitor in the spring for sure.
Go for it now.Newbie question - what is the acronym GFIN?
Eh, you pretty much had it anyway.I knew it was something close to "Go Friggin' all IN" but knew it wasn't quite right... ty for the info!
Yeah, he is the absolute must have. I don't think Lugo would be as good as Paxton was before the last few weeks of the season. Sox need a couple of starters who eat up innings.Whatever it takes, Craig. Whatever it takes.
For Yamamoto, not Lugo, just to be clear.
This is wildly not true, maybe you are going by the ancient Fangraphs ratings? They have 7 guys in the BA top 100 currently and their pitching development is in full swing, two SPs from the 2022 draft already in the top 100 overall including the overall MILB pitcher of the year this year. There's a reason they match up better for Soto than anyone else, they have pitchers to spare despite trading 10 (yes, 10) at the 2022 deadline. One of the worst farm systems in baseball.
The highest I see them anywhere is bleacher report at 16. Fan graphs and mlbpipeline both have them in the bottom 10. If this is a point you're actually arguing it's semantic at best. I think the various prospect ranking systems tend to be 6-12 months behind reality, and NY's current minor league system is pretty loaded. Do you follow this (genuine question) or are you just looking up rankings? The highest I see them anywhere is bleacher report at 16. Fan graphs and mlbpipeline both have them in the bottom 10. Why are you optimistic on a farm that has maybe one top 50 prospect and is rated in various places as bottom half of the league?
What's the point in bringing in Breslow and his merry band of pitching gurus if we don't go for at least *some* reclamation projects? Hopefully they pick them a bit better and help them a bit more than we've been doing. If we end up with him, I sure hope you're correct. I really am getting tired of reclamation projects.
I wouldn’t mind a moderate 1 yr + team option/buyout situation, but there’s no way I’d want a normal multi-year deal.Who knows? Not sure if the new bosses prioritize extension as much, or how much of a learner of things Giolito is.
But $20m+ is not project prices.
